paypal seller protection warning for all sellers

I learnt something recently that I was not aware of so thought I would share it as it has cost me $110 which I really am not pleased about.  I sold an item early december, after payment by paypal I signed into the "View Order Details" section of ebay to get address, posted item thinking I had done everything right.  The seller opened a dispute with paypal 3 days after I posted item saying they had not received it yet, mind you, I am in country Victoria and they are in sydney, express post takes 2 days to get anywhere, I sent a copy of the postage receipt to buyer stating they should at least wait a week before disputing but still no reponse.  I replied in the paypal dispute section, the response was I should have sent item to the work address listed with paypal not the home address listed with ebay as the buyer often has parcels go missing from the home address, would have been nice to know this.  To cut this saga short, the dispute was escalated when the buyer didn't receive item (or so we were told), after talking to paypal, they agreed I did have proof of sending item but as it was to the ebay address and not the paypal address they had to find in favour of the buyer and reversed the payment back to the buyer!!!!  I ask, I have proven postage, they know it, the buyer admits that parcels go missing from home address, why are they still using it as ebay registered address, why did they not tell me to make sure item was sent to work, or better still, pay the extra $3 for registered post.  This has left a bad taste in my mouth, christmas day I received a notice from paypal to get my balance out of negative or I may hear from debt collectors, so my warning to you all, PLEASE SEND ITEMS TO PAYPAL REGISTERED ADDRESS NOT EBAY REGISTERED ADDRESS.  Why aren't we told this more often, the little paypal protection icons are everywhere, share the rules more openly please.  I hope this doesn't happen to anyone else because it was a very unpleasant experience after building up nearly 1200 positive feedback responses which went nowhere to help my case.  Sorry for the longwinded post but I am annoyed that I was punished when paypal said they could see I had posted the item, they could see it was the buyers home address, they couldn't prove the buyer was telling the truth, but I am sorry, we have to reverse the payment!!!  I must say in closing, the paypal operators were very easy to contact and talk to, although perhaps velvet sledgehammer is an appropriate term.  Happy New Year everyone and may your ebay experiences be better than this one.

There are still some buyers like me who have lived a the same address for over 40 years with the same phone number for 37 years.

I have always used my home address on both ebay and paypal...never any change.

Sellers who send parcels to me are covered whether they use the ebay notification or the paypal one because they are the same.:-D

Ditto for my 4 and a bit years here.

But if I decided to have a purchase sent to somebody else I would be somewhat upset, to the extent of trashing DSRs (far more potent than a mere neg), if the item lobbed in my PO Box.

Re: paypal seller protection warning for all sellers

If anyone receives parcels and claims they never received the parcel and claim refunds , that is fraud regardless of what address is showing , When paying for an item at the check-out , buyers can change the postal details so it is sent to another address , for example to a friend as a gift .

If you have information that the buyer has received the items , you can take legal action to recover the items or to receive the payment , the same way that people can't go to the supermarket and wheel a trolley of items to a friends's car and not pay for the items

If would be helpful to sellers if a message was placed on the purchase page informing the seller of the correct address and that to be protected , the item must be sent to the address as listed , that way , the seller doesn't get mixed up with two different addresses .

.Some buyers don't like it , when the seller tells them that they have to change the address at Paypal before the item can be sent  to another address as they feel it is their right to nominated what address the item is sent to you without cancelling the sale and re-doing the address details .

the message is there, LOUD and CLEAR on every single 'Notification of an Instant Payment Received....' email that paypal sends you.  it is up to the Seller to READ the email and follow the instructions.

trouble is so many are blase about such emails and go ho hum, another payment, i'll post that tomorrow.... and never read the email details.

appletreeaaa the postal address cannot be put on the sale notice, as that is only entered when PP payment is made; the eBay sale notice goes out the moment the item sells.

I'll bet you anything that those sellers who do not read the PP notification,  also would not read the message that buyer may have sent when paying.

Re: paypal seller protection warning for all sellers

When sellers are packing and labeling the items , they usually work off the eBay page that shows items that have been paid for and are ready to post  , the eBay page at this stage could show the correct  Paypal address to send the item to , as the payment has already been received ,

When packing items , sellers usually work of their eBay pages and not off their email pages , it takes a lot of extra time to move back and forward from the eBay pages to the Paypal pages when all the details could be put on the same page when the buyer pays for the item and that way no errors are made with the addresses . .

I always assumed (yes, never assume) that the PayPal address was in sync with the eBay address - as it is in my case.

When people are sending to gift address they DO NOT WANT that address to be registered as their eBay address; it is NOT their address.  And what if I have bought several items for gifts to different people and want them posted to several different addresses?  It has nothing to do with my eBay address; that is constant, that is my home address, my official address.

If you have problems coping with this, use click&send and the correct address will come up for you automatically, without you having to worry what is right.

If not using C&S, I work off the Paypal emails. Simpler and easier. And more accurate. I would be reticent about tarring all sellers with your own brush.

I thought it did, but the OP sent to the registered address as advised in the 'Your Item Sold' email, which predates the payment, so your point is irrelevant.

Appletree if you want to receive negative feedback and want to deal with disputes don't use the address in every payment notification from Paypal.
