as i know pretty much if its tracked and it gets there ,its in the seller favour , but if its not tracked its in te buyers favour thank you and please only reply if you are a current seller ids only with at least 99% feedback thanks.this info would be very helpfull for a friend of mine.

@joethenuts wrote:your point is fair enough , but i am more comfortable getting advice from sellers with feedback, just like a plumber ,i always ask for a certified card he shows me and off to the job he goes , no card no job
I'd say asking for advice is more like getting quotes on a job. Consider the quote, look at the details, check the experience, check the qualifications and if you don't think it all adds up to a good deal, don't accept it.

@bettyboopsadaisy wrote:You're welcome. Infact, thinking about it, I might even add a note to future listings to the effect:
"If you intend to bid on or purchase more than one of my sale items and would like to take advantage of a combined postage discount, please let me know that you will be delaying payment until you have finished buying from me. If you pay for your items separately they will be recognised as separate transactions by ebay and will have to be treated by me as such (ie, sent separately) in order that they are all covered by a tracking number."
Forwarned is forearmed !!
Sorry, I know we're getting slightly off topic here, but for anyone reading this thread & your comments bettyboops - and also just for your info - there are several threads regarding the issues with combined post, so I will try & be brief here -
I have had a note at the very top of my listing descriptions for ages, and have always had a note on my invoices regarding combined post, the sad thing is the majority of buyers don't read !! I even added a note earlier this year as a photo to several listings (thinking perhaps buyers only look at photos), but it makes little difference. BUT, anything that may help is worth a try in my book
I feel so bad when buyers purchase several of my low value items and pay separately, I actually send a message explaining I can combine in one package if they are happy for me to do so & ask them to choose an extra item as compensation - I know I run a risk of doing so as this is not within eBay's policy, but for me, as mentioned earlier, it's about happy customers. If the overpaid postage is very high I offer a refund - never had a problem to date (touch wood !)

@bettyboopsadaisy wrote:Yeah I get that you have been able to add the same tracking number to 2 or more items. I haven't.
You say you don't know where I got the information from. . . as I said before, from "ebay reps (via email)", and that what you get from them is not always reliable.
By the way, I am also not a 'newbie' to ebay. Been selling for nearly 8 years, albeit on a fairly small scale.
That is really strange bettyboops cause I've never had a problem either & I do it quite often.
Haha, what you get from them is not always reliable - absolutely, but still doesn't really explain why you can't do it & others can

Not being able to add the same tracking number across multiple items has actually been a relatively prevalent issue among a number of sellers - it's been a little while since I saw someone mention it, but it does happen. I have personally been unable to as well on the odd occasion (what would happen is that I would enter the number as per usual, it would go through 'successfully' according to eBay, but not actually appear on the transaction, no matter how many times I tried), so now I either try and work around it by adding them all via selling manager, or just add to one and inform the buyer they're all going in the same package, which can be tracked via X item.
I just thought I'd mention, too, that although you need multiple trackaing numbers for multiple payments in order to qualify for PayPal seller protection, there is actually a difference between qualifying / applying seller protection and a buyer's claim being unsuccessful (PayPal seller protection pretty much only applies if/when a buyer's claim is successful).
eBay is a fairly different beast, though, and even on their info page for seller protection, they actually only provide very limited information to sellers in most cases about how to qualify for their protection, and do not even mention the full requirements, particularly for specific scenarios, on the policy page.

Aaah digi, now you mention : what would happen is that I would enter the number as per usual, it would go through 'successfully' according to eBay, but not actually appear on the transaction, no matter how many times I tried,
that actually rings bells & turns lights on so to speak, I think that has also happened to me but I had totally forgotten about it - plus whenever random things like that happen to me, I figure I must have made some kind of mistake, because I freely admit I am pretty hopeless when it comes to technology & computers, lol, perhaps I blame myself too often, when really it's the beastly system I do add mine via Selling Manager (I think) so maybe that's why I don't have too many problems.
Fortunately, have never really had any claims or the need to rely on Seller Protection , but in the early days when trying to read up on policies etc, I must admit to concluding at the end of the day, as a seller, you're pretty much up the creek - the buyer is always right !! But I'm not one for 'the fine print', it just doesn't sink in for me
PS I must add - my previous post was in no way intended as having a shot at bettyboops, reading over it, it may have sounded that way, my apologies if it did as that most certainly was not my intention

I didn't read it that way ๐ I just thought it might be benficial in general if I mentioned it's something that can occur, and your post was the last one in the thread (I can't reply to joe anymore, 'cos he doesn't like it for whatever reason o.O ).
I haven't ever had any issues I couldn't take care of without PayPal being involved, or eBay stepping in (they'll involve themselves from the start, though lol). Hoping I can keep it that way for as long as possible.

joe, it can be tricky, but the way I see it there are a few options your friend has
a) send items individually without tracking after charging postage for each item
b) keep messages only through eBay, send an invoice for combined postage (cost of posting only), no handling fee, take a photo of the addressed parcel at the post office counter after postage has been paid and label attached
c) charge postage for each item and send in one parcel and pocket the extra postage
d) offer local pickup with no postage cost
Now, this may come as a surprise to some readers, but I choose . . . . . b)
Hope this is helpful to your friend joe.
