poor manners

Has anybody else noticed the general lack of manners exhibited by many buyers these days--perhaps it mirrors society, but I have noticed over the last couple of years that a considerable percentage of ( presumably satisfied) buyers dont bother to leave feedback

Not usaully the case with sellers .

As a buyer I find feedback from other buyers to what I must assume are eBay's 'pet' high volume sellers to be very useful, because goodness knows why some of them are still in business.  I particularly read them when it applies to buying books and music from european sellers, and various odds and ends that I can only get from asian countries.

If a seller has racked up 15-30 plus negs in just one month then they aren't getting my business, no matter how much cheaper they are.  Sellers who have got 60 plus negs in the same period makes me wish there was such a thing as a Blocked Sellers List.

I always leave feedback and the sellers I've bought from have left feedback too.  Feedback is far from dead IMO.

I'm the seller and I generally don't get around to leaving feedback in time. My sales are BIN instant payments so for me there's no problem with the transaction. I haven't had any complaints (so far). But I know not leaving feedback is kind of rude so it's something I have to up my game on.

Just a general reply.Smiley Happy

I don't see it as rude if a buyer or seller does not leave feedback because I know it is voluntary, but (rightly or wrongly) it does come across as organised and professional when sellers give it. Even though it might be a generic type response, it sort of shows attention to detail.

As a buyer, I do find feedback useful as long as it isn't taken as gospel but more along the lines of looking for trends or patterns. Ebay itself is not the seller, there are thousands of different sellers on ebay, all with different levels of experience, different histories, which is why it is nice to have a bit of an overview.

I prefer (as a buyer) to give feedback that might be of use to any other buyer who reads it & that can sometimes include a comment about the product. I know that is a contentious issue with sellers as they see feedback as only about the transaction, but I think buyers like to know about the products too.

There are times when I as a buyer have not given feedback and the sellers should be grateful as it usually means I don't know what rating to give. For instance, my husband ordered some sort of tool (on my account as he doesn't have one). Seller based in Aust but item took a month to arrive-which was actually within the estimated delivery date when i checked-so I don't believe for a second that item was located in Aust & I don't care for sellers who mislead. So i got the item, but......

If I do the polite thing and leave feedback, I'm inclined to a neutral. That's how i feel. Or I can do nothing. Should I do the polite thing, that is what i am wondering.Smiley Happy

Feedback is voluntary so everyone can choose what to do and what suits them best.

As a seller, I always leave feedback immediately I receive payment โ€“ this is a personal choice because I think:

* People like to be thanked for payment. If I go to a shop, I pay the money and the shop assistant says โ€œthank youโ€.   It seems a courteous thing to do.   Even if I use those dang awful automatic checkouts, the machine thanks me!!

* I havenโ€™t the time or the concentration to remember to find my sale and  leave feedback after the buyer leaves feedback first.

As a buyer:

*  When I buy something on ebay, I like being thanked upon payment โ€“ because it's discouraging to throw your money into the Ethernet and nothing happens for a while. Maybe the seller is not there?   Maybe the seller canโ€™t see my money?   Maybe the seller has my money and has gone to Hawaii with it?   I know, Iโ€™m a worrier.

*  By the way, if I donโ€™t get thanked for payment AND the seller doesnโ€™t mark it as posted, and my item just turns up one day, I ding the stars for communication.

I think some PayPal stats reveal that half of online buying is done using the phone.  So I believe that a portion of the people buying stuff on through phone aren't going to be bothered to go back on their phone, find the feedback form and type in feedback.  They got their item and just move on.

Not marking as posted is my pet hate.  I never know whether to wait (sometimes for ages) or drop an enquiry to the seller.  The problem is you don't know if the seller is just slack or it has been posted but the item has gone missing in the postal system.

I made a purchase from the US where it was a month before the seller finally posted it.  Grrr.  I was so relieved to see that eDelcon reference but the seller was lucky he lived so far away - what I would have liked to say to his face can not be said on this forum.

Re communication, there has been times (like above) when I would have given one star for communication....only to find it has been greyed out.  It figures.

Sellers not marking items as sent is a pet hate of mine, too!!

Doesn't matter whether it is tracked or untracked, I like to know when it is on its way.

I think nowadays most sellers are much better at posting things off quickly, because they have to be-ebay has forced them to have a time limit.

I used to find in the past it was much more common that I would have to do what you describe- drop an enquiry to the seller. A lot of them used to take their sweet time, it was nothing for them to wait a week or two before posting something off.

If they tried that on me now and something wasn't even posted by the estimated due dates, I'd be opening an item not received claim.

Ebay have a facility for sellers to automatically leave feedback. When setting it up you can use a choice of ebay scripted fededbacks or write several of your own which are sent randomly to buyers. I have to laugh when I see obviously auto feedback which says " great buyer, SUPER FAST PAYMENT " .....Smiley Very Happy.......It shows what a farce the feedback system has become.

The seller has a number of choices as to when it is left including at the point of purchase, point of payment or when buyer leaves Pos feedback. All my accounts are set to the last option.Works perfectly every time and I dont ever have to think about the feedback thing.

I,m not sure if it is only available to store accounts, but it would be worth looking into.

Haven't you ever heard the expression "no news is good news"? Or, "never trouble trouble until trouble troubles you."

Worry is today's mouse eating tomorrow's cheese. If you're that paranoid about knowing whether things have been received you'll give yourself ulcers (or worse), so why don't you send everything with SOD?

I have to wonder why you're so worried about knowing whether the buyer is happy with their purchase, Don't you have any confidence in the accuracy of your descriptions?
