someone wants to return an item

Hi i have sold a new beach top to someone that only lives a few blocks away from me.  She wanted to get it posted which to me is a waste of $7.  It has been over 2 weeks and today i get a message that she is unhappy as the beach top even though its a size 10 is really more of a size 7.  I have explained that beach rash tops are very fitted so its not on the big side.  Now she is saying that its not new and has fraying.  Im really confused as this was definately brand new and never been worn so im abit suss especially why wait 2 1/2 weeks??

Anyway as she has paid with paypal if she brings the top back i shouldnt give her the refund in cash should I if she drops it off?  If i see there is no fault i shouldnt have to pay the full amount.  I have offered some money back but havent heard back yet.  Or does she have to send by post with tracking to show paypal?  So over selling atm.  I have sold alot of these new quiksilver tops and no problem so im really confused.

This is not my selling id by the way

Yes she will need to send it back with registered postage if she wants to receive a refund, but what you need to do once you have received it is carefully inspect it and if you are satisfied that a refund is warranted then give the refund, but if your happy to give a partial refund then ask her to show it to you or send some photos showing the fraying and then decide what you want to do.

Re: someone wants to return an item

its SOOO crazy when she lives down the road from me to spend another $7 to send it back to me.  This is why i hate paypal you have to go by the book so everyone is covered.  I dont think she want a partial refund as obviously she thinks its a small size for her son and having second thoughts.  Thanks for the reply

don't pay it in cash if she paid by paypal, she could lodge anouther dispute or credit card charge back. Refund it though paypal.

Re: someone wants to return an item

I would just send a polite reply that as she chose to pay through Paypal and have it delivered you would prefer her to go through official Paypal channels if she wants to open a dispute for item not as described. If she goes as far as opening a dispute be very specific in your response regarding it being the size specified on the label and that it was brand new so there would be no damage on receipt. There is a 50/50 chance you will win if your response is good enough.

If Paypal find in her favour then she will have to return by post using a fully tracked service which will cost her probably more than it cost you to send it, if she isn't up for paying that cost she will not get a refund.

It is likely she will give you a neg anyway unless you pay her back in cash but don't allow that to sway you, better a red dot on your computer screen than risking being ripped off.
