i'm sure a lot or most of you probably received the managed payments email this morning. in case you didn't, or missed here - ebay is rolling out managed payments later in the year with pre-registration opening shortly.
more info is located at https://sellercentre.ebay.com.au/managed-payments

Sorry twyngwyn, not replying to you but you happened to be the last post on a long thread.
Does anyone else have reservations about uploading their driver's licence and bank statement to register, or am I just being paranoid?

I think it's a reservation a lot (if not most) people have. I've now had to provide scans of photo ID for Et*y, Shop*fy, and PayPal, but I've not had to show anything in regards to my bank accounts before. It's super easy to electronically verify a bank account so I don't really know what they want to acheive with either a scan of a statement or a screenshot after logging in to the account.
I get why the photo ID is required (which is not the same as being happy to provide it, lol), payment processors need to reduce their risk so having a confirmed identity for the account holder will help do that, but it would be nice if there was a better system in place than sending scanned images of highly sensitive info into the proverbial ether, then having to trust eBay (et al) to keep it all safe.

Thanks for your input Digi. I don't think that I had to provide photo id to Paypal but that was 2001 and things would have changed since then. I can understand the requirement for that too, as you would need to provide it if you opened a bank account, but as you say it is the trust issue that is the stumbling block, and I also don't like the fact that eBay will have complete control of our funds. I'm still deciding whether to go into this or not. I would have liked to sell for another year or two but maybe it's time to hang up the packing tape! 🙂

I tried to register for the managed payments but I only get to the very first screen where the ID is required. The options are only drivers license, passport or visa. I don't have any of these. So not sure how I'm going to get on their system anyway. Am waiting on chat to find out.

Also I notice the birth date it has for me is wrong. It has my partners birth date. I think because he registered this account but then we changed it to my name instead. Is there any way to change that I can't find it in site preferences.

I received no reply from eBay. I have thus submitted a report to the ACCC. I believe Managed Payments is a ruse to increase overall fees by strategically excluding fee-free payment options which are meant to benefit buyers and sellers. I believe Managed Payments will most likely amount to a cartel of payment options designed to be hidden, designed to be complex, designed to be almoist impossible to calculate and designed to be increased at eBay's whim without proper transparency and without any financial benefit to buyers or sellers who wish to avoid or minimise payment service fees. It mocks Federal legislation designed to provide consumers with a right to avoid merchant payment service fees if a fee-free payment service is utilized. If eBay utilizes fee-free payment services as a part of its Managed Payments, without forwarding a saving to the buyer and seller, then it's claim, "Most sellers can expect to see overall savings" is a complete lie. if ebay fails to utilize fee-free payment services as part of its Managed Payments, then the costs associated with hidden payment services will not provide buyers or sellers with any savings.

Ebay chat was no help at all. I explained my issue of not having any of the 3 pieces of required ID and they just stopped responding to me. The chat was still open and live just no response at all for almost 30 minutes. So I started a new chat and asked again. They told me they can't help and directed me to the page where you can click to have ebay call you. It said expected wait time 12 minutes. I did that at 10:30 this morning and as yet (2pm here) have not received a call. So looks like I will have to be on the live chat again tomorrow.
