why did ebay do this?

ebay have fiddled with the genre's of dvd listings and have removed the genre Action; there is a new genre "classic" [which was removed a year or two ago]

considering how many movies are action i do not understand why they did this? what should the action movies be listed under? the closest would be crime/thriller but many are simply action.

do not understand ebay, why you did this.

Action movies would best be listed under "Action & Adventure" which is still an existing category.

Sounds odd, perhaps report it.

ebay may not be aware if it's a program glitch.

Gav, that category definitely still exists.

I just created a listing for an action DVD (The Rock) and the category ebay suggested was...

DVD Region: 4
Genre: Action/Adventure

Are you perhaps accidentally trying to list on ebay.com instead?

i sell a lot of used dvds its when you list ones that are not in their catalogue.

as i have been relisting [usually 10 at a time] if one of those was not listed through there catalogue a little blue box appears saying that genre is not available.

maybe you could try listing [without finishing] that movie without using the auto catalogue and see if it does the same for you.

OK, now I see exactly what you mean. I used the ebay listing tool but I'm sure the same applies to Turbolister.

It seems that there's no issue if searching the catalogue for your movie title as it correctly allocates the Action/Adventure category, but if you try to manually select a particular genre from the drop-down list, that genre isn't even on it!

When viewing DVD listings, however, the list of available genres is as follows...

Action & Adventure
Animation & Anime
Anime & Manga
Children's & Family
Classics
Comedy
Documentary
Drama
Educational
Exercise & Fitness
Foreign Language
Horror
Music & Concerts
Musicals & Broadway
Romance
Sci-Fi & Fantasy
Sports
Thriller & Mystery
Travel
TV Shows

...which are indeed considerably different from the choices offered during listing.

It's a waste of time emailing ebay, but it probably wouldn't do any harm to give them a ring.

thanks cq - always think there maybe something wrong with my computer till someone else confirms it. did you notice the children/family one is missing there as well?

could be as much as 20% of the dvds i list are not in ebay's catalogue.

Just out of pure curiosity, do people actually search for dvds by categories? I would imagine they would know what they are after and just type it in. I would simply put in title the genre "kids", "action" e.g.

i search by title usually so who knows how others search. although i may search by genre sometimes - mostly horror.

if you search by action now you will only get the ones in the ebay catalogue.

just seems really strange to me.
