Good morning. I am in Ireland. Somebody in Australia has been using my email address as an EBay Australia customer for the last 2 months. I have been receiving dozens of emails from EBay Australia when this person purchases something. I have this person’s EBay username. I have tried to get in touch with EBay Australia using chat but nobody ever seems to be available. I am not prepared to phone Australia. I have just made a complaint to the Privacy Commissioner in Australia. I don’t understand how somebody was able to use my email address without verifying it first. I’d be very grateful if somebody could advise how I can stop this this person using my personal data.
Solved! Go to Solution.

Thanks to everyone for their comments. Once I got past the bots at the start of the phone call, I was put through to an extremely helpful agent who immediately understood my problem. She verified that the email address was mine and then she removed the email address from the customer’s account. I can confirm that I have received no further emails from EBay today (I was receiving at least a dozen each day - the customer was buying a lot of stuff).
I still can’t understand how a customer can use somebody else’s email address without EBay verifying that first.

If it’s your email address, try logging in on eBay with the forgotten password thing. The link should go to your email, and you should then be able to log in, change the password, and initiate closing down the account.
Or… use the Live Chat facility during business hours (Melbourne/Sydney time), to inform eBay of the issue.

Thank you. I just phoned EBay Ireland and was able to resolve this issue.

I hope they solved it properly rather than just say they have solved it. Best of luck.

I agree
eBay staff here just type from the script that tells them what to say to get of the person as fast as they can
Please keep an eye on things
