As a few mentioned 2006 was very similar, eBay thought that sellers would forget, instead a massive drop to their shareholders (not saying for a second American share holders would care about eBay Australia/austria as they dont seem to know the difference) however back then it was discussed that Australia was eBays playpen, they introduced changes here to see how it might affect important markets.
Sellers moved on and only the paypal thing after 2 years of no choice has ever been improved, that is if you believe that sellers actually won anything from the accc considering how eBay still makes it all but impossible to utilise any other service.
I know of an eBay id that was banned for life back in 2006 so just be careful how much you bag out eBay. There was a movement afoot to try and hold eBay accountable and their response was to ban complainers for breaches of policies????
Final point DONT EVER TRUST EBAT as an income source, you have no income if they decide to ban you, you have no business, treat eBay as a string in your bow only and perhaps look at it as already broken anyway.

Re: Changes to meet buyer demand on eBay.com.au (26/07/2011)

So, buyers want these changes, huh?? Well I buy and sell and as both I don't want these the exorbitant fee increases.
As a casual seller here's what you want me to pay.

I have 3 used items to sell. They usually sell on eBay for $48, $120 and $300 each. (And don't need a gallery photo to sell due to their popularity)

- Currently the FVF on a $48 sale is $2.52. Add the insertion fee of say .50 making a total of $3.02. The NEW FEES will be $3.79.
A fee INCREASE OF 25%.

- Currently the FVF on a $120 sale is $5.18. ($75 x 5.25 and balance of $45 x 2.75). Add insertion fee of .50 AND gallery of .59 making a total of $6.27. The NEW FEES will be $9.48.
A fee INCREASE of 50%.

- Currently the FVF on a $300 sale is $10.13 ($75 x 5.25 and balance of $225 x 2.75). Add insertion fee of .50 AND gallery fee of .59 making a total of $11.22. The NEW FEES will be $23.70.
A fee INCREASE of 110%.

The fee increase would be more if Gallery photos were NOT included.

Do you only want sellers listing their lower priced stuff?
With all the news coverage stating consumers are saving their money by cutting back on spending and all large stores reducing prices drastically to encourage sales (even their internet sites offer lower prices) why is eBay going the opposite?

You are alienating your customer base?

No sellers, no buyers. Reduce prices eBay not increase them (LOL). Me

They clearly intend to either drive small home sellers out or force them into a store. eBay is still a community but with eBay as the only one who matters. With pay al fees as well it's just not worth it. I am ending it after 10 years as an eBay seller.

who told you it was a community? Hasnt been a community since Pierre sold out and went to Paris to spend his Billions. The incompetents that run ebay have run it badly ever since with the share market price accurately reflecting the changes from what Pierre set up through to what these MBA degree collectors have done with what was once a great company.

The problem eBay has uncovered is that their IS a desire for a community to gather and auction of unwanted goods and buy other peoples goods in return. The Pez situation is a classic example of how far ebay is today in comparison to how eBay began.

eBay was never supposed to be a business venture for sellers running businesses to utilise as a main income generating field. It cant cope with the expectation of sellers to be able to produce a main income stream indefinitely, in fact you only need to look at the control eBay has over your financial viability. E.g. you build up a clientele of 1000 regular customers, off ebay you have finally achieved profitability, on eBay you list an item and it is considered a breach of policy or simply eBay decides you cant speak out against them. Either way eBay decides to give you a short holiday, all your buyers go to your competitors as they dont know why you stopped you just did.
With the way ebay places you on holidays unless you have off ebay records you cant even fill orders so you get a heap of Negative FB on your return. Your business just got destroyed through someone deciding that they should NARU you.

SO those that think they have an ebay business think again, it can only ever be a minor source of your total income or you will eventually lose everything and have to start again.

Think my POWER SELLER needs to be changed to POWER PAYER!! Not content to now get double the fees as ebay and paypal are the same company, now ebay are putting the fees up. Did I not read they are making millions already. With the down turn in the economy I would have thought they did not need to take more in fees if they are already making millions. They are promoting and are getting bigger all the time, so cannot understand why they need to get more out of us. I am seriously not becoming a power seller and just getting my 30 free listings a month!!

Currently it's 5.25% of the first $75 then 2.75% of the rest, so the 7.9% is a massive increase over the 2.75% but this fact is not mentioned anywhere on the ebay information page regarding the increase?

I'm not very happy thay ebay have removed the "Won Purchased" from the My ebay Summary page, and now I have to navigate to a seperate "Purchase History" page, imagine how many people will forget they have bought an item from say a week ago and now it no longer shows up in their My ebay page? there will be a few problems and disputes created from this change not to mention the inconvenience of having to navigate to another page to see what you have won... On the "Purchase History" page we can see item we have purchased up to 3 years ago??? if you have a look you cant see pictures or order details after 60 days so really whats the point??

Re: Changes to meet buyer demand on eBay.com.au (26/07/2011)

This really has to be some sort of a joke.
A 50% increase in Fee's.
Let's break this down shall we.

I sell something for $100.
Before FVF = $5.25 NOW $7.9

I sell something for $500.
Before FVF = $26.25 NOW $39.5

This has got to be some sort of joke, how the hell are any of us better off? really.
Fine if your selling crap under $50 or so you are better off. But how are we better off if we are selling things over $100. We are not.

This just seems like a big old push to get BOGANS on here so they dont have to pay for there stuff to list it.
MORE BOGANS = MORE JUNK = MORE PROBLEMS.

Thanks Ebay Management.
Nice work on the bottom line there....

Perhaps if there's enough seller backlash over these fee changes, eBay may do a backflip like they did over compulsory payments with Paypal. I'm a PowerSeller selling around 40 watches per month. I was considering getting more serious and starting a store but this money grabbing exercise by eBay has certainly put me off. I'm better off telling eBay what they can do with their PowerSeller status, reducing my listings to 30 per month, and selling lower quality and cheaper watches than what I'm currently selling. Ebay will be making considerably less money out of me, and I'm sure I wont be the only one taking the same action. It's about time eBay stopped biting the hand that feeds it!!

It the sellers that don't come to the discussion forums I worry about.. they are not going to know what hit them. 😞

I think if ebay were really interested in what sellers think about these changes, they could have posted a invitation link to this discussion through ebay messages. I do however think that would cause a wider spread outrage and we would definately find many more sellers giving up selling on ebay, so ebay would not find it in there feesable interest to send out invitations o join his discussion. 😉

EBAY IT SELF IS ONE OF THE REASONS RETAIL IS FAILING AROUND THE WORLD AN NO ONE CAN SEE IT.
EBAY HAS BECOME GREADY AND INCREASE THE FEES FOR THERE OWN MONETARY GAINS ( RIP US OFF ) HALF MY ITEMS I SELL I MAKE NO MONEY AND A COUPLE I LOOSE MONEY JUST TO COMPETE AGAINST US SELLERS. ITS A TOTAL JOKE.
WHY USE EBAY ????? WELL HOPEFULLY I CAN GET PEOPLE TO REALISE THAT THEY CAN COME TO MY SHOP AND STILL GET A GREAT PRICE THAN HAVING TO WASTE THERE TIME ON EBAY.!
WHY ELLSE .....WELL WE DONT HAVE A CHOICE
