I sold an item for $47 and received $40 in payment. eBay is charging almost 20% in fees. Surely this is wrong. Am I the only one? Who in their right mind would use eBay if they take 20%.?
Really keen to hear if I am alone or have others been completely torn a new one.

The fees are a touch under 14% for both the item and postage combined.
You should be able to see the breakdown of the fees charged under the Payments tab in the seller hub.
Are you on the new Managed Payments system yet?

By my calculation you should have received $40.40
On managed payments your fee should be 13.4% + 30c

But surely that's close to 20% when rounded up to confirm outrage?
OP - $7 fee on a $47 sale is under 15%.
I haven't experienced 20% fees, nor have you by your own admission.

Sorry Dave, my calculator must be playing up again, strange, it usually works pretty good after I throw it on the floor a few times.

If you were being charge 20% in fees, your nett amount would have been $37.60.

Sales show it to be a $35 sale with $12 postage
Not a $47 sale

20% fees, would have given you a payout of $37.60.
So why are you ripping Ebay off, hopefully Ebay will take you to the ACCC for not paying them enough.

Under the previous payment system, I was paying just under 20% after Paypal and eBay fees combined. Different categories paid different rates of percentages for eBay. Paypal just charged a set rate based on the amount. I always calculated at 20% of the actual selling price (excluding postage) and it always came out very close to this, slightly less but not much.
