A bit worried

I am just a bit sus of my seller. He had an item up for 295 I bid 270 got accepted straight away.Ok now in blurb he says that he wants bank deposit.Feeling wary anyway so say no will do pay pal Friday .He says can't wait that long put$100 deposit in bank now.So I say no Ill pay pay pal today. What do you think? It just seems dicey so should I pay him by pay pal and see what happens .Just abit worried it's a scam and I will be left waiting for pay pal to sort everything out and I'll miss out on others as I will have no money to spare .It is a laptop for daughter at school.

I will NOT and had NO itentions of doing bank deposit and told them so.Said I would only do Pay pal.Only offered pick up as thought if it was a scam and there was no actual item they would say no to pick up.At the moment since I said PAY PAL or pick up I have had no reply from them and that was last night. Will try for photo of items or recipt next if this all fails how do I get intouch with Ebay to say I think it's a Scam or do I let it go to unpaid item dispute? I would assume if I get no more comunication from them it is a scam and they realize that they are not getting any money from me direct!

Re: A bit worried

It's up to you with this transaction but JMO i would ask the seller for a mutual cancellation. He can state buyer change of mind & get his fees back.If he does not agree, then he can do an unpaid item dispute & you will get an strike on your account. You don't trust the seller (neither do i) perhaps as poppy suggested,he doesn't trust you or the new system.

I usually have a more seller oriented view on buyers cancelling after a sale & don't take offence please. This time i honestly don't mean to (i have been snippy with buyers who do this) Smiley Surprised But today i was worried you were going to make a rookie mistake & get ripped off,so I'll play nice (sincerely)

When you look at an item, read the listing, look at the seller's actual feedback, not just the %.

If it is a high price item & the seller has a new ID & low fb,look elsewhere.

Buy phones, laptops etc at a B&M store or check out some of the established sellers of these items with a record of excelent fb.

Read the listing, ask any questions, put it on a watch list before you bid or buy.Compare prices.

If you are not sure, come ask here or an ebay friend perhaps.

Check the listing is not under eBay motors, you are not covered by PP protection.

$ ,bank deposit, pick up is not covered for protection.

Live & learn eh? My middle son buys recklessly & has silly buying problems & picks dodgy sellers without checking  *sigh*  on my account too. He's ADHD & i should have spanked him more as a kid Cat LOL

Re: A bit worried

Refuse to pay other than paypal - if they open a NPB dispute you can defend  it siting this as the reason - Seller demanded bank deposit.

Yes still waiting for a reply since I told him would only pay paypal it is now 24hrs.It doesn't look like he is a genuine seller so I have been lucky being wary but would like to make sure he doesn't just relist and get some other poor bugger. What could be done to at least try to stop that?

Re: A bit worried

There isn't much to help someone avoid it as ebay have basically removed the report button for members to report dodgy listings.

I didn't mean to imply that you were silly or incapable before,it's a kind of basic list of things that unaware or newby members come to the boards about.

Sometimes people think that ebay gets money back for everything & that's not always the case.Sometimes they do but it can be a big hassle.

At least you knew that the seller asking for bank deposit felt wrong.

I hate scammers.

If you are definitely not going through with the transaction you can leave feedback for the seller now.  That should be a good warning for other potential buyers.

It will be there for at least the 8 days that it takes for the seller to open and close a dispute and issue you with a strike.  If you react immediately and have the strike removed on the grounds of the seller asking for bank deposit you may find that the negative will stay there.
