I tried to leave feedback for a seller the other day. The item arrived broken from China and the seller replied to my message quickly and refunded within minutes of me sending a photo. What did I do wrong? Oh, I know, it's because I forgot to put a full stop on the end, isn't it?

Dee, I would be very annoyed if I paid for an item and it was not sent & still had not been sent long after its due arrival time.
Buyers are entitled to get their goods & what this seller is trying to do comes under my definition of extortion.
But as i said, you are in the position of power. By all means report him, I would have too.
But now open an item not received claim. Carry through with it. If it is well past the expected arrival dates as you claim & he has no proof of delivery you will be refunded.
You do not need to delete your feedback. If you did delete it, that is a shame as you won't be able to do it again for that purchase as far as I know. If the seller did not send the item after you paid, why would anyone have confidence the seller would send it afetr their neg feedback was removed?
The seller might be hoping you don't know enough to open an item not received case. Prove him wrong. Open it.
It's the best way to deal with a rogue seller. That way they don't make any profit and I am sure if it happens too often it will affect their selling account.

Woops, I see you have your money back.
I still would not have removed my feedback (because of the attempted extortion and the fact you had a lot of trouble with the seller).
Sometimes a neg is warranted.

Why do you have all these protracted arguments with sellers in order to get your money back when items do not arrive?
Just pay with paypal, open a paypal dispute within a reasonable time and you will get your refund in a matter of days rather than weeks/months.
Even easier is read the seller's feedback before you buy and you will not need to open any dispute because you will not be ripped off.
If a seller has bad feedback going back many years why on earth would you buy from them anyway?

I have to agree with what lyndal said above.
Never get into a long argument with a seller. Never. It's not necessary.
If your items don't arrive within a couple of weeks of the expected date, message the seller to let them know but if they start to mess you around at that date eg saying they will send it soon or send another one, just ask for a refund. If it isn't given, go straight into an item not received claim.
Personally, I would never threaten a seller with legal action unless you were talking a very expensive purchase. Any reputable law firm is probably going to tell you the legal fees would outweigh the benefit. Most sellers of smallish items won't be too worried by that sort of threat.
And it isn't worth getting into legal hassles anyway, when you can just open an ebay dispute & get your money back, no worries.
As for feedback. I never worry too much if a seller has a few negatives as it is virtually impossible to sell a lot on ebay without having the occasional difficult customer or making the occasional mistake etc, but if you see a pattern of negatives where the seller has been unhelpful, then just don't buy from him/her.
