Re: Black mohair monkey

There is no way now to know who the other bidders are on auctions.

Years ago our full IDs could be seen in the bidding history but ebay in it's wisdom decided that it was not private enough and now we habe the short form only on display.

What is so special about these mohair monkies?  Apart from being old, are they special in any other way or do you just collect them like oithers collect teddy bears?

Re: Black mohair monkey

Lyndal,  I believe it's a German Steiff monkey from approx 1910.

Very hard to find and highly collectable.

Re: Black mohair monkey

I think that is a bit of a stretch Stawka.....it looks nothing like the Stieff monkies of the time.  Just because it was made in Germany it does not make it a Stieff and the seller was careful not to mention Stieff in any way.

I must admit Stieff toys are not to my taste....I prefer the English teddy bears.  I have an English bear from 1947-8 that was in the first shipment from the UK after the War.
