I have been trying to purchase a silver cutlery set through eBay but it keeps rejecting the credit card payment

Have you added that payment option to your eBay account ?
If not go into your account - click on "G'day *****" at the top of the LHS of the page in buying.
Then click on "account settings" > payments > add payment option.

Actually thats wrong, all credit cards have a limit. ie. I have one with $1000 and another with $20,000, if you go over the limit you do not have funds

Actually that's wrong - one is able to go online - or - phone to have the limit adjusted immeditately if a larger payment is needed - then switch it back again - if necessary.
And wrong yet again - there is absolutely no limit on this :
Having said this - the OP would be aware of their limit - and would be aware a purchase over that limit would not go through.

Yes I guess you can get pedantic, but if OP hasnt checked their limit they wont have funds. And just for your lack of knowledge you cant increase the limit online or otherwise on all credit cards. And not everyone has a platinum card.

I only have a debit card.
I don't spend money I don't have.

Same here- I've had bank offer me a credit card and I'm like " NUP!"

How often do you check your limit - or actually know your limit. LOLOL
I've recently on my Mastercard - increased the limit online - immediately - paid - then gone back to the original limit - online.
I think it may be a problem with the card not linked.
Just thought I'd throw in the Platinum - because the statement - all credit cards have limits - is - well - not true.
