Ebay messaged me that I requested to cancel an order........no, I didn't!

I won an auction yesterday and paid straight away with PayPal. I had used a sniping program to bid for me and won at just a little over the starting price.

This evening, I received an email from eBay:

You've requested to cancel this order

Hi xxxxxxx,

We've informed the seller that you'd like to cancel this order.

You should hear back from the seller by 13 Apr, 2022.

The seller may not be able to cancel this order if they've already sent your item(s). However, if the seller approves your request, you should receive a refund for the purchase price and original postage back to your original payment method.

......and there is then detail of the order.

At the same time, I received notification from PayPal that my payment is refunded.

The thing is, I didn't make any request to cancel the order.....so how can eBay consider that I did?  Is the seller able to fake a request from me to cancel the order so that they don't have to  pay fees or something?

I'm not out of pocket, so my only complaint is that I really wanted the item and I thought I had purchased it for a reasonable price, but now I have to find another seller I guess.  The item is no longer showing in my purchases so I can't even leave feedback.

I don't know if anyone is interested in this saga.......but the latest is:

I contacted the seller asking why he cancelled the order.  He replied that he didn't cancel it, must have been eBay - a glitch or error of some sort.

I replied that as I didn't cancel it and he didn't cancel it, could I repurchase the item?  I pointed out that he had the same product advertised still but it now had postage added.  I asked if I could 'make an offer' at the price I had purchased - adjusted to account for the postage.

Surprisingly (not) he then replied that he had asked at 'the warehouse' and the reason for the cancellation was that there was "some quality problem" with the item and that he wouldn't offer me a substandard product.

And yes, the item is still listed  😂 🤣

Any suggestions for feedback when I am allowed to post it?🤔

Such a bizarre situation.

I don't get the seller at all - he's just deflected from the fact that he really was the one who cancelled the order.

Ebay would have no reason to interfere with the purchase, unless the sellers account was suspicious.

No idea why they guy won't sell to you - your feedback for sellers is fine, so I can't understand the issue or why he just won't sell it.

I'm wondering if the seller is the owner of both this account and the original one you were trying to purchase from. Is the item fairly unique? Can you give us the item number/s?

Bizarre is right (or bizzarro as a dear friend of mine used to say).

No, the item isn't unique, just an accessory set for an air fryer.  Item number is 363139795300

It is possible the two sellers are one in the same.  The item number number for the first purchase was 313942520766

Neither seller had stellar feedback but I was using PayPal for payment so thought the risk was minimal.  I've always been pretty careful and apart from a few duds many years ago have had it pretty easy buying on eBay.

Still not out of pocket, just bemused and befuddled 😎 😆

amber, the PO Box address issue is probably (I think) the reason for what's happened with the cancellation.

However, I think you might have dodged a bit of a culinary bullet.

I don't have any confidence that the silicone items in that listing are food-safe. I'm not sure that the metal used is fit for purpose. The feedback comments from the negatives do indicate poor quality compoents/raw materials.

Of course, Philips have a full range of accessories (very nice quality, but holy plunging rouble, they're on the expensive side!), so I've done a bit of scrimmaging online to see what's available without that high price tag.

What about something like the Bellini air fryer accessories, available from Target?

Also, the Harris Scarfe Healthy Choice grilling set?

You could also get some food-safe heat-resistant silicone baking mat things and cut them to shape. (Target has them, for instance - nice low price.)

And... Wiltshire make all sorts of silicone baking/cooking products, which should be fine to use in an air fryer.

If you want to buy any of these on eBay, you may find some sellers, but at least you'll have some choice and some confidence.

Thanks for the info Countess.  I really only need the rack.......and the liners would have been useful, the other stuff was incidental (not intending to use the air fryer for baking really).

I actually have the Bellini one and the rack is very very small.  That's why I thought this set would be worth getting - the rack was a much better size.

We don't have a Harris Scarf here in Darwin so postage bumps the price up but I might end up with that one. I thought I'd have a hunt for a cheap cooling rack of the right size first (or butcher one I already have🤔)

Amber, I use a turbo oven and I needed extra trays/racks to fit - 20cm.

I found all I needed in one of those cheap and cheery Chinese stores ($2 Shop)

If you don't have a $2 shop or Chinese equivalent then try a Chinese grocers, maybe.

(I don't understand why there are no $2 Chinese shops where you are located, seems strange to me)

We do have Dollars and Sense and there is a Chinese Emporium - planning to check both of them today.  Unfortunately the Chinese Emporium burned down a year or so ago and they are in temporary accommodation while they are rebuilding and have cut their stock back to pretty much only foodstuffs. Still, I will check.👍
