FAKE product received, want to destroy it instead of return

Bought a fake Logitech mouse from a dodgy seller, initiated the refund process.

I understand that currently I'll have to return the item to the seller in order to get my refund.

However I don't want to send the item back to the seller for someone to fall victim to it again.

Will ebay be alright with me destroying the item (cutting the mouse cord), and issue the refund upon evidence of that destroyed mouse?

yes, and ebay said that following with the seller is their next step.

Sell suffers a significant loss as they have to pay for return postage. Unless it is gold-plated, that will be a hit to their bottom line.

A much better option than destroying the item and letting them keep all their allegedly ill-gotten gains.

'leave a feedback to warn other sellers'.

Given only you, eBay and the seller know who they are, no feedback you leave will warn other BUYERS. Other sellers don't care how you treat your seller, other than to ensure you can no longer buy from them.

Rubbish.  ebay do not advise of any action taken or pending

From logitech,  the fact the item  does not connect to G hub, does not mean the item is fake.

Device does not appear in G HUB โ€“ Logitech Support + Download

No, just stating a fact.  Take it or leave it.

Phone call from ebay on a public holiday, sounds real.

a multi-million dollar company can't employ a worker on a public holiday, right.

you ever been to Costco, Woolies, Coles? McDonald's? Subway? on a public holiday?

Thank you for your (non-)help
