Feeling ripped off slightly!

I purchased an item, when it arrived put it aside and opened a few days later only to discover it was not the item ordered but rather someone elses goods. So as you do contacted the seller. The seller gave me a barcode to print out that did not work (Australia post did not recognise it) so in order to return the item I had to pay 26 odd dollars. We tracked the parcel in case there were any issues. I sent a copy of the receipt and no response. Finally I again contacted them giving them 24 hours to provide a resolution. After threatening to take the matter further I finally recieved a reply that the item would be coming although I am yet to have details provided to me.

In the mean time the item is now 79.99 instead of 99 so did at least recieve 19 dollars refund. However no refund for the postage. This is a major department store who are usually fantastic to buy off but the ebay part of it is a nightmare. If I do not recieve my item I will be taking it further including complaints to the company and Consumer Affairs. But I hope it does not come to that.

Question is should I expect to see my postage money? or let it go as a loss?

Did they say to use the original box? The only other thing I can think of is they were wanting it to be processed as a reply paid return to sender option, since they've used eParcel and that theoretically should have automatically be charged to their account with Aus Post, though AP wouldn't have been able to scan the barcode on the original label as it looks like it got damaged at some point.

Hopefully they'll settle everything in due time, though.

The return process, is not a dispute.  It can be progressed to a dispute by you, if the seller refuses to work with you or refuses the return.

It is best to use the ebay return process, rather than dealing direct with the seller for these issues.

Digital Ghost yes that makes total sense. Yes the box was a tad damaged when it got to me so absolutely that could very well explain it. Thank you!

I disagree. It is always best to contact the seller for a resolution first. The hammer of eBay processes should not be the first resort.

Dave that's how I've always done things and most of the time had very little hassle. I've brought around 900 + items and DD many items on her account and twice I've had to follow the dispute process. On other occasions the majority of sellers have been fantastic. Most of the time transactions are smooth sailing in fact the majority are great.

Thats great dave,  but the problem is that ebay have no record of the return, so there is no way for a seller to receive a refund of fees paid.  The return tools provided by ebay are there for a reason, to protect both the buyer and seller.

Hmmmm they told me it was. Yes I've sent a receipt they are side tracking that. But they have refunded a little because the price of the item changed as above so I might have to cut my loses and learn from this mistake. Funny thing is I did double check with them and they were adamant thats all I needed.

Yeah next time just open an item not as described case. Ebay then provide you with a return label and bill the seller for it. That way it all goes through the system correctly. You did the right thing by communicating with the seller first though. In this case, you're not out of pocket much after the discount so you're right to not stress about it and move on. Hopefully your other item arrives. Did they provide you with a tracking number?
