Have you been scammed by Ebay when accepting a lower price with attached code?

I recently purchased an item on Ebay. In the auction right next to the price was an offer from Ebay that I could get it at a lower final price (and a code was provided for me to use at checkout). I checked the "terms & conditions" as well & I definitely qualified.  I purchased the item, inserted the "correct" code at checkout, but it didn't seem to work. So I proceeded on expecting it to be applied when Paypal payment was finialised. But nope, I was charged full price.

I got it all reviewed by Ebay and they did EVERYTHING they could to deny me my rightful discount, even questioning that a discount was offered in the first place.

I don't know how to get a screenn shot of the offer for my purchase (therefore I can't offer physical proof that the offer was in the auction) ...... the offer only appeared in the auction when I was signed into Ebay. I suspect the offer did not work because of some type of technical issue maybe at the time.

Have you been scammed by Ebay in this way? Were you able to get a successful resolution? it seems the only option I have left now is legal action.

I paid $1500 for the item. So that was between the minimum & maximum limits. Also, I conformed to all of the terms & conditions listed in your link.

Ouch. Then that 5% would have really made a nice little difference.

I don't know how successful you will be now, after the event, especially if you have rung ebay up & got nowhere so far.

I struck a similar situation a while back on a small purchase where I could see nowhere to put the code so i didn't go ahead. I pushed the back button and put the item in the cart instead and it worked that way.

It won't help for the present case but my advice would be to do exactly as brer rabiit suggested.

When you want to use a discount voucher or number, go through the cart.

If you enter a code and the price doesn't immediately go down to show the balance you then need to pay, don't go ahead. Click out, try again till it works. A call to ebay would probably get a lot more help before the sale than afterwards, is my guess, or maybe I am just cynical.

I s this for the  weissenborn  that was listed for auction with $1690 start, that appears to have been sold via best offer for $1500.

I can not see any reference to an ebay discount in the original listing.

Not saying that it was not there when you were looking at auction, but would appear it did not apply during the best offer process.

Yes, that's the auction. The discount is only shown to the recipient of the discount and the recipient must be signed in, and it shows only while the auction is active. It's not offered to everyone.

I've had further contact with Ebay and they've now admitted there's been a "technical issue" with the 5% discount offer and have "currently" withdrawn the offer to people (this is after they originally tried to tell me the offer didn't even exist in the first place). They said they will get back to me (I bet they don't bother); anyway we'll see.

That is not how I understand the planet code terms and condition.

The Discount was open to all and was also available via numerous third party sites linked to ebay.

The following is taken directly from PLANET  T&C's

โ€˜Eligible Itemsโ€™ means all items listed on eBay.com.au where these terms and conditions are found and the coupon redemption code is displayed in the item listing.

Re: Have you been scammed by Ebay when accepting a lower price with attached code?

What I really meant to say was when I looked at any Ebay auctions without signing in, the discount (or potential for the discount) was not mentioned in any auction. Then when  I signed in, the discount offer was present in the auctions I looked at. In other words, when any member of the general public who had not signed in saw an auction on Ebay, there was no sight of the offer. I'm "presuming" that the discount was only offered to members who had a good, long history with Ebay. The offer was presented right beneath the Ebay price, and a link was shown for me to find out what the code word is. For example, beneath the original Ebay price of $1690 was the discounted price of $1,605 with a notice saying I could get it at that lower price which is a 5% discount. In the terms and conditions it says the discount applies to whatever the final price is (so it would apply if I bid the item up, or put in an offer for a lower price).

No worries,  according to other sites, if you happened to stumble accross any items that were eligible  under the latest

PLANET code, you should have bought a lotto ticket instead, they were apparently that rare.  The offer and its  T&C's has been savaged on third party sites.

I saw quite a few with PLANET advertised as being applicable, so I think it was not quite as rare as some third party forum posters might like to imagine.
