some weeks ago there was discussion here about an "outside website" where member buying history could be looked up.
I am in no way wanting to re-start the sometimes heated discussion surrounding the use of that website, but want to let members know that you can have your buying history suppressed on that site.
It is hard to post this information without saying the name of the website, which would probably get that same old protagonists going at eachother again. So, I have uploaded a screengrab I just took from that site that details how to "opt-out" of your eBay ID being able to be searched. I will edit this post so that the image will no longer be visible on this post, but will be visible if you look at my member profile and click on my images. I will make all other images there private so that there is only one image to view.
Follow the instructions on the screengrab and your buying history will not be searchable on that outside website. Takes a little while for the request to be processed, but that should be expected. For anyone who is holding off posting because you don't want your buying history looked into you can now suppress your buying activity search results and then post here knowing that members can not search your buying habits/history on that site.
I ask that members not use this thread to start up the old arguments. Thank you.
edit: image now removed BUT still viewable through my profile public image album.

If they are in your private album, then they will still be visible.
It just sounded like you had deleted all your public images
and a whole lot of stuff would vanish.

The first day I posted here someone publically discussed my purchases.
Subsequently, in a thread regarding buyer privacy, purchases of mine were posted.
If I want my purchases publicised I am capable of doing so myself.
Sir Sales, thank you for posting this. Boring or not, everyone deserves the right to decide for themselves what appears on a public forum.
If people ask for help here with a purchase, then it is easy enough to ask for further details if required, if they have blocked that outside site from bringing them up.

thanks i was unaware that site even existed ,whats the point of having set private feedback to keep your purchases private when that website shows everything anyway.. in my opinion its an invasion of peoples privacy ..ive opted out.

I know I am dragging up an old thread, but there has been a development with the watchcount.com buyer/bidder history website.
watchcount has retired the buyer/bidder history feature on its site effective 19th Feb 2016
http://www.watchcount.com/bh.php http://www.watchcount.com/news.php#bbhst-retired
Some members will rejoice while others will not.
There is now no need for any member to contact them to hide their buying history.

you-know-who will be very happy. I don't want to mention his their name as they aren't around at the moment to comment.
It takes away one of the reasons a member might 'lurk' and not post as their buying history is now protected!
So, if there are any members who wouldn't post because of this you can now post. We would welcome some new faces around here rather than just regulars like me.

I did look at the site yesterday and the number of users who had had their history blocked had risen to 187. It was 116 when I first posted this thread.

That's what I can't work out. It looks like the "polite request" was due to some buyers being unhappy that people could check their buying history (which is fine). Why not just get themselves blocked? The link was right there. When they complained to eBay, why didn't eBay suggest they get themselves blocked? Instead, the minority wins again.
