How to get a refund when paid but cancelled and accepted but seller says contact Ebay.

I've paid 537.00 USD to Ebay seller .. includes postage and taxes to New Zealand.  I cancelled it before opening hours. Initially they refused my cancellation request until i pointed out that the item would not have left the building. They agreed to cancel. But the refund payment has still not been received . All they say is contact Ebay directly as they issue the credit.  Well finding anyway to contact Ebay about a specific purchase looks impossible. Its around in circles and eventually "contact the seller".  How do you contact someone who cares in this Ebay universe?   The system of refund seems plain wrong.  Might have been automatic if they simply accepted the cancellation request in the first place.

Your seller is right, if the order has been cancelled ebay process the refund and it could take a couple of days to go back to the original funding source.

As for       I cancelled it before opening hours.          Whos hours, orders can be processed and postage paid   24/7.

You can't cancel, only the seller can.

That's why you should be totally sure you want something before you press the commit to buy button. That especially applies to anything that is going to cost $US537. That's huge!

Whether the item has left teh building or not, the seller is actually not under any obligation to cancel.

My first question would be-has the seller actually cancelled?

You can contact ebay though. I agree, it takes a bit of work but go to the help section and keep pushing the choices that no, it doesn't solve your problem till you get to the 'assistant' in chat. It's only a bot but if you continue to ask for help eventually you'll get to where a real human will chat or you can arrange for one to contact you via phone.

Ask them to check for you if you are not sure, have your transaction details ready.

Sellers are not obligated to cancel, item not leaving the building has nothing to do with anything

eBay Help is at the top of every page

How long ago did you buy, change your mind and demand want the seller to cancel?

Waste of the seller's time and possibly costing a genuine sale

Yes, we sometimes get people on here who have the belief that if they ask to cancel a sale quickly, then it is an automatic entitlement. They feel if the seller hasn't posted it yet, then what is the problem.

I would like to see them try this with other online sales sites.  Once you order and pay for something online, that is usually final. You can sometimes arrange a change (maybe of size or colour etc) if you are very quick, but even that is not a given.

Funny how it is a very different story if I seller cancels right after a buyer pays

The buyer then comes on and tries to demand that eBay *make* the seller send the item, or claims the seller *has* to be a scammer

Buyers expect they can buy something, want to cancel and that should be hunky dory

While I completely agree with sellers missing out on a sale if a buyer wants to cancel, I don't think buyers can be blamed for asking to cancel considering that's exactly what eBay's been encouraging when they made the announcement:

We're Simplifying Order Cancellations

We're simplifying the order cancellation process for both buyers and sellers to create a more user-friendly and consistent experience, build trust between buyers and sellers, and encourage repeat purchases.

You have the choice to accept or decline a cancellation. When feasible, itโ€™s recommended to accept the request, especially if itโ€™s sent within minutes or a few hours of an order being placed. This can help avoid return requests and encourage the buyer to return to eBay for their next purchase.

I also wonder what kind of seller would  go ahead and post an item to a buyer who clearly doesn't want  it.

eBay's trying  to keep up with some of their competition  which include Amazon and Temu.

Amazon purchases can be cancelled any time before they've been shipped, if  Amazon are shipping.

(individual sellers will need to accept the cancellation but they're in the minority these days).

Even then, if the item's already been shipped, buyers can refuse the parcel or return it with a full refund given.

Likewise Temu, if an order's not been packed, orders can be cancelled, or  easily returned if too late to cancel.

We all know that eBay's different with all sellers being individual but it's not how buyers think these days with eBay's  competition making it very easy to cancel.

Yes, you are right, in that ebay does encourage sellers to accept cancellations and it does imply to buyers that the option is there.

I did not realise Amazon allowed cancellations but I guess that does explain why ebay is keen to have a bit of the same.

I think one difference is a lot of Amazon stock is in their own warehouses so it is easier to control, whereas ebay has no warehouses, though I know it is an option they have considered.

If I were a seller, I'd probably allow cancellations if I had not posted items. I wouldn't be thrilled but I think ebay is right in that it might guard against returns.

If CJSbear has still not received a refund after checking, he needs to contact ebay chat. It's a lot of money.
