you can't remove the actual words, although you can delete it from your purchase list. The seller will probably want to cancel the transaction to get his/her fees back. It's up to you if you wish to do that. Nothing will happen to you.

Once you receive a refund or cancel a transaction the item will again show in your Purchase History as awaiting payment.
It cannot be deleted by you but will eventually go to your Archives...or you can archive it yourself, where it will show for about 3 years if you go looking for it.

It really doesn't matter if it is there, that page is mostly for your information only and has no bearing on anything that is happening on ebay. If the transaction is cancelled then you can just ignore it.

Damn this is annoying I bought a sd card which turned out to be fake the money was refunded but now shows as I have an item to pay for as I am mildly OCD this will stop me buying until it goes away there must be someway to get rid of it. I love buying stuff on ebay I do not want to stop because of a con man

Just hide it in your archives.
There is not need to stop buying just because the ebay system is silly enough to show that you owe money....you know it was paid and refunded.

I have hidden it but it still shows as an unpaid item I can not log in and look at an un paid item. Yes I know it may be silly but it is how I am it drives me crazy so while it is there I will have to stop buying any idea how long it stays there for?
