Is item shipped or not.

If a seller tells you they have shipped an item to you but its not marked as shipped on your Ebay site is this a cause for concern. I know this subject does pop up from time to time.

I wouldn't care whether they told me it was posted or if they marked or didn't mark it on the ebay site.

If it didn't turn up after a decent period of grace I would put in an item not received claim.

If there is no tracking number I think they would lose.

I am a bit surprised that the seller didn't mark it on the ebay site though, that would seem to me to be the easiest way to communicate with the buyer without having to write messages etc.

The fact you say they have told you they shipped it suggests you had to ask them?

Personally, if someone doesn't mark an item as sent, I sometimes consider giving only 4 stars for communication.

Sometimes there are many reasons why a seller doesn't mark as posted. A couple of weeks ago I posted an item on my way to work. I told myself I'd upload the tracking number when I got home. I ended up working 7 hours overtime and by the time I got home I'd forgotten about it. All I could think about was sleep. I remembered when I got into bed and told myself I'd fix it when I got up.

A few days later the AP app notified me the parcel was being delivered that day. Oh carp, I forgot to mark as sent and upload the tracking number, so I did it then. It was delivered about 15 minutes later. It was an intrastate parcel and was still marked as posted within my 5 day handling time and the buyer was probably surprised that it arrived 15 minutes after being marked as sent.

I'd had such a busy weekend that weekend at work. I worked nearly a full week just in over time, so had been flogged to death. It wasn't hard to forget things. If the buyer had sent a message asking if her parcel had been posted, I would have been able to reply to her in my break and let her know that yes, it has been posted, but as I didn't have the receipt on me at that point, I couldn't upload the tracking number.

Sometimes things just happen. Some sellers don't mark things as posted at all for whatever the reason. In this day and age with postage defects it's a bit silly to do that, but they still don't do it. A novice seller may not be aware of defects. They may not realise that people with OCD buy from them and assume that something hasn't been sent because the box hasn't been ticked, even when it has. Some may not even realise they need to mark it as sent.

I think it's a bit rich to ding someone's stars because for whatever reason they didn't mark something as posted. If the item was as described and still arrived within a reasonable time, so what if it wasn't marked as posted?

michelle, if it doesn't turn up by sunday arvo send the "Mad Batwoman" around to their place to ask nicely if the item has been posted to you.

I messaged the seller about the problem and she replied she thought that it had been marked as dispatched but for whatever readon it didnt SO she said she will do it tomorrow.

I understand some sellers may not know about marking it and sometimes things do get in the way of sellers being able to mark it-maybe they run out of time or forget or whatever.

It's not a major issue, I agree. That's why i suggested still giving 4 stars, it's  a high score that isn't really going to harm a seller.

Sometimes I have had things not marked but which arrive within 48 hours. Nope, I don't usually ding any stars in a case like that.

But realistically, if we are evaluating communication, then I believe a seller who does mark it has done a slightly more thorough job than one who doesn't. The fact some newbie seller may not know about marking it doesn't change that fact.

Sometimes if something is taking a while to arrive, I don't worry because it has been marked as sent so i am reassured it is on its way.

If something has not been marked and is overdue, it is more of a worry.

That's why I think it's a good idea for sellers to mark it where possible.

Mind you, if they marked it as sent but I found a big discrepancy between that date and the postal mark & delivery, I would consider being even harsher with the stars. Missing a small procedure is not a huge deal but lying I do not like.

Springyzone - some sellers use 3rd party tools to manage their ebay orders which may generate an email to advise the buyer an item has been posted but may not mark the item as posted on ebay.

If the buyer has been made aware an order is on it's way I really can't understand the reasoning behind only giving a seller 4 stars particularly if the item arrives within the expected delivery time.

i buy quite a few things and if item ain't marked as sent i have no concerns as they always turn up in time. when i sell i sometimes will mark as sent that day or take 2 or more days before i mark it as sent. i must be lazy
