Payment on pickup

It has been recommended that pickuped items be paid for on pick up. I'm guessing you can't insist on it? One item I'm interested in (111826132043)  is adamant about this & won't even give the address until paypal payment is cleared. Do you have a leg to stand on requesting a refund if on pickup the item isn't "as described" ? Opinions?

No, you are not covered by paypal for a pickup item that is not as described, but neither is the seller.

If you decide you must have the item, fund the paypal payment with a credit or Visa debit card.  If you do have an issue you can do a chargeback and the seller will not be able to prove that he posted the item.

It is not really what I like to suggest, but if the seller will not understand that neither of you are covered then it seems the only way to me.

A quick message to the seller letting them know there is zero PayPal protection and a buyer can do a chargeback, so risky for seller.

Also mention cash on pick up means no PayPal fees for the seller.

I would say that the seller believes that payment by Paypal means that you actually will then pick up the item.  Perhaps the seller has had experience of some buyers saying they'll pay on pick up and never turn up even.  If the seller has not offered cash on pickup and has already said no to that, then you must go with the options offered in the listing

if they don't offer cash on pick up then walk away. find another seller.

I particularly liked this bit in the listing -

 Winning bidder must pay by paypal within 3 days of winning the bid. If the winning bidder does not pay within 3 days the item will be relisted and you will get negative feedback.

Seems to not know much about the process of selling on ebay.

I wouldn't pay by Paypal myself

Cash on pick up in case you don't like what you see.

Looks good, but the photos don't show the brand name - you just have

to take his word for it.

The seller used to use negs for buyers when it was allowed by eBay Stalks, makes for interesting reading....................
