It has been recommended that pickuped items be paid for on pick up. I'm guessing you can't insist on it? One item I'm interested in (111826132043) is adamant about this & won't even give the address until paypal payment is cleared. Do you have a leg to stand on requesting a refund if on pickup the item isn't "as described" ? Opinions?

Weeeeeeeell, not exactly. That one is an electric massage chair
But very, very similar.
Wonder why seller didn't show Moran label? If that's what it is
Hey OP - you should buy that one instead

I contacted seller who has posted a photo of the Moran tag at least. Still, it's an off puttingly aggressive listing. I can understand with the sheer number of non paying buyers i've had lately (it was my daughter/ uncle/ cousin/ dog - not me! & the classic "I don't want it anymore"). However with furniture it's hard to pay up front if you've not sighted it properly & sat in it.

I understand where you are coming from. You will find quite a few "aggressive" descriptions and as I mentioned before, I think it is because some sellers are tired of difficult bidders/buyers. But I still don't think it is necessary to come across as aggressive when there are now steps in place to handle any issues with non payers after the sale has ended through ebay AND by making sure you have buyer blocks in place.
However, if it is an item you really like, trust your gut. If not, look elsewhere. If the opportunity to sight chair and sit in it is important before paying, then that should be what directs your purchase.

Glad they put the pic of the label up.
Still, for that amount of money, I'd want to try it out for comfort
And really, they should understand that, instead of trying
to 'off-load' it

Wow the seller is crazy insisting you pay by Paypal before you pick the item up. Is he/she asking for trouble. I would never ever allow someone to pay by Paypal and then expect to pick the item up. All they have to do is come get their item then put in an item not received dispute and get their money back. Even a receipt written out as proof of pick up is no proof. Let this person know that they are shooting themselves in the foot if they insist on payment first. Not saying that you are going to rip them off but someone will eventually

locall1961 , there is no PayPal buyer or seller protection for pickup items. If a buyer funds their PayPal payment with a credit card there is a remote possibility of a bank chargeback some time down the track. That's where the risk is for the seller.

For a "local pick up" item, I don't think it's possible to claim "item not received". By demanding PayPal only, I would say the seller is trying to make sure a buyer/bidder actually pays before he is stuffed around.

That's what would worry me if a seller demanded Paypal only for a pick up item. If you can't claim how would you get your money back if the seller didn't give you their address to pick up from & just stopped communicating.
