Postage from USA - why so expensive?

I have pretty much given up buying avything from the USA. Are their overseas postage fees really that exhorbitant at the other end? We are talking $25 - $30 for very small packages, compared to around $10 - $15 equivalent delivery method from the UK.

Its happening in aussie land as ebay makes the rules and wants all items tracked

i think the dicks in aust polititions got the us to put up postage as soon as harvy norman started **bleep**ing here about people buying everything on ebay bang" up whent postage prices

It is a bit of a stretch to suggest that the rise in Australia Post prices has anything to do with Gerry Harvey having a whinge and the US putting up their prices.

Australia Post has been increasing prices twice a year for many years now....they do not need to listen to anybody having a whinge to encourage that.

I have bought from chemist shops from America and the shipping is equal what i pay in Australia,

so why is the shipping on most items expensive or unrealistic

Crikey hasn't been on the boards for years, so I doubt you will get a response.

The answer to your question is probably that USPS runs at a loss, and economies of scale, and they are a different country with different rules. I do hope your imported drugs are legal.

Not sure why this person says PayPal doesn't refund postage.  I have returned items through GSP payment had been refunded.

This illustrates the folly of resurrecting old threads.

When this thread was started you NEVER got a refund on the postage from a paypal dispute.

It is a very new service and you have to join up to their return postage scheme before opening the dispute.

Tried to buy a $15.99 jeep 4" bullet antenna for my jeep, from usa but postage was $76 . Bull**bleep**

you might want to msg the seller just to check that is correct, sounds like a bit excessive for what i would imagine to be a very small item. Or maybe they are including insurance in that amount. I bought a dvd set from the US last week, postage was about $25 usd, not exactly cheap, but its a larger item than your antenna so theoretically should cost more to post than an antenna, not less. .
