This subject must be of considerable interest to a number of people that have had their feedback removed.
I have left only 3 negative feedbacks over a number of years with many purchases. All have been removed.
One was removed after I initiated a dispute and complaint about being libeled. I complained. he was found wrong, but he was rewarded with the removal of not only his offending reply but also all of mine which did not contravene policy.
Recently I legitimately stated that that the postage was excessive. And also discoved that another member's feedback stating the same was removed. The seller's score however was such that the reasonableness of his postage outscored the rest.
The basis of malcontent with this seller was that he started the auction at 99cents and it was won at that price but then charged $127 to have that 39kg item shipped less than 5km literally down the road to my place.
An examinination of the seller's feedback scores it indicates that some 200 feedbacks are missing that must be neutral or negative.
Clearly many feedbacks have been removed and given that it can be argued that, that freight cost was excessive and that the seller sells many of the same item and other items this way, that a substantial number of people would not have been completely happy with this charge.
Seeing that I found another member with the same view, before that person's feedback was also removed, I seemed to have some cause for concern about how the feedback is manipulated for large sellers to show an extraordinary postive feedback in the absence of almost non existent negative. In the real world this rarely is the case, some negative must be justified!
Another alarming point is that when I filled out the feedback it would not allow me to give less than the 5 stars; the item listing incorrectly said freight was free and that is why 5 stars are automatically given. So in affect I was only allowed to give feedback if I gave them 5 stars for freight, although that was the very point of my negative feedback - that freight was not reasonable!
Not fair trading on a number of points.

@lyndal1838 wrote:There was no fudging of the system as you put it....you just did not know how to use it properly.
It was a bit unethical of the seller to open a non payer dispute against you, but if you had answered it by quoting the paypal payment ID the strike would not have been issued and the feedback would not have been removed.
Also, did you mention disputes in the feedback...that is grounds for it to be removed.
a bit????
ya reckon?
I hope that got sent through to Trust and Safety!!
But dave, Lyn's right, did you respond to the non payment dispute, or did you just ignore it? If so, why?

sorry lyndal maybe i should have worded it better.... the seller insisted on direct credit, i never usually do that i always use paypal, but the seller had 100% feedback so i felt he was a trusted seller!! i contacted e-bay twice in regards to this issue. 1st time was because he wouldn't refund as he had agreed to (all comunication was thru e-bay messages) e-bay contacted the seller for me and i got my refund! when this was done i left the appropriate feedback so other people would know of my problem, (i believe this is the whole idea of feedback!!) i never left any nasty or rude comments or refered to a dispute.. just the facts. the seller then opened the unpaid case, then i contacted e-bay again (by phone) and they said to let the case close and they would remove the strike as the had seen that i had paid for the item. within 15min of the case closing i recieved a phone call from e-bay saying they had removed the strike. then in my won items it said i was "not intitled to the item" and the negitive feedback i had left was gone!! i still believe the seller knows how to "fudge the system"

Feedback is automatically removed by ebay when a strike is issued....both buyer and seller feedback.
What you need to do now is ring ebay and tell them that the feedback was removed when the strike was incorrectly issued and now that the strike has been removed you would like the feedback to be reinstated.

well that is incorrect as my feedback for the seller has gone and the sellers feedback for me is still there !!! go figure...

Well if you are not interested in getting your feedback reinstated I can't help you.
But I do know that if a seller gets feedback removed that does not contravene ebay policy the buyer can get it put back by ringing ebay and telling them that it was removed incorrectly.
I've done it!

Lyndal why did you mention that, I was hoping for an early night but now the bun fight will be on again, you know they react everytime you mention the restoration of feedback. LOL

thanks so much for your assistance lyndal. clearly i need to do a lot more learnin and stuff to be able to use the system to my advantage... i'm really not that stressed about this issue i have a life away from e-bay... i only wanted to state that a occasional user like myself can be fooled by a career e-bayer like yourself ! (4065 posts on a discusion forum and your private feedback brings me to that conclusion no disrespect intended ) average jo-blo's like me just look to see if the feedback is 100% or close to it before making a purchase. i thought the feedback system was an indicator of a seller (or buyers) trust level generated from other community members rating them! now back to what i was trying to say in the begining.... if a seller knows how to fudge the system they can do doggy deals and get away with it !! how many people follow up their feedback they would just expect it to still be there. i myself will now be more careful when checking out a seller & wont ever bother anyone on a discussion forum again i promise...... good bye Lyndal happy E-Baying 🙂

How rude....you come here for help from more experienced members and then say you have a life outside ebay, implying that we don't. My post count went up by 3 trying to show you that the seller was not "fudging the system" and how you could have your feedback reinstated.
How have I fooled you?? I am not a "career ebayer" and Private feedback indicates I am not a seller so what have I done to fool you?

I suspect he's confusing 'showing up as less than across eBay' with 'fooled'.
A general rule of thumb, dave, is if you're not prepared to take opinions on board from experienced eBayers, then the boards probably aren't for you.
For a start, anybody with Private feedback is, for the moment at least, a buyer only. Which gives another perspective (a buyer's) to a question.
