When selling I have ALWAYS given feedback when the customer pays for the item. The quicker they pay the better the feedback. AS IT SHOULD BE.

When buying how ever I have found a lot of sellers do not leave feedback until you leave them feedback. Is this GOOD practice? I don't think so, in fact it causes me to give poorer feedback than I may have originally as I class this activity as bad customer relations in the 'seller's communication' area. As a rule I start asking why I had not received any feedback after four to five days, then if I do not receive a reasonable answer and immeadiate feedback the seller loses points. As a majority of postal times from sellers average at least 7 days I usually wait that long before "reducing" the stars on communication. Then every four days they lose another.
Today I contacted a seller asking "why?" on an item 320731808127 purchased on the 9th of May and received this reply:
"Dear robert_053,
Hi
thank you for your information.
our system work that when customer leave me positive feedback.
the system leave him positive also.
please leave me first.
miranda"
to which I have replied:
Hello Miranda,
That is very rude.
I order and pay for items straight away and so I expect positive feedback STRAIGHT AWAY!
What YOU are doing is extorting good feedback from customers so they will get good feedback too.
IF you had checked my members profile page you would have discovered that this is a particular "HATE" of mine.
It also causes those sellers who do it to LOSE 'points' when it comes to me making my assessment.
To me that is a "failure for proper seller's communication"

NOTICE TO SELLERS!When I purchase your product and Pay immediately, I EXPECT feedback immediately!! Should you delay feedback, until I receive the item and give YOU feedback, you WILL receive LESS STARS in communication the longer you delay!

Do YOU think I am right in doing this?

Why would a seller want to leave feedback? .What are you going to say, ah thanks for your money.
I can see why a buyer would leave feedback though.Like item ok quick postage, good buy etc.,the reasons for a buyer to leave feedback far outweigh the sellers reasons are far as i can see.
Although i do keep an open mind ,and if you have a good reason on why a seller should leave feedback then please feel free to tell me.
happy bidding ebayers.

OP, Approx 30% of buyers dont bother to leave feedback.
if you expect sellers to leave feedback first after the buyer(or you) have paid, What would you do as a seller in all fairness to combat 30% of buyers who dont bother to return feedaback once you have left the buyers feedback first?
At first as a buyer i expected sellers to leave feedback first, so at first as a seller i left feedback first cos thats how i wanted to be treated as a buyer.
But after a while i got a bit annoyed with about 30% of buyers who dont bother with it. After all under this current system it probably more benefical to ebayers if the seller receives the feedback. And i wanted my top notch service to be rated continuously.
So I was forced to do what most other experienced sellers do, Only return feedback if the buyer leaves feedback first. This encourages buyers to leave feedback when they want it returned, and in my experience doing it this way the %'age of buyers who dont leave feedback has lessened.

Joz, OP has probably worked it out in the last YEAR.

i see you have bumped the threa twice now dave:-D
and are you sure the OP wouldve worked it out?
i just wanted to put forward the reasons why i dont leave feedback first as a seller, and im sure there are many legit and sensible reasons why Other sellers dont leave feedback first too

and if you have a good reason on why a seller should leave feedback then please feel free to tell me.
Some create a second account for board use only, who choose to build a feedback score of 10 for unlimited posting, personally i would list stuff to achieve that unless i really want to buy a few items on ebay

Wow, what an angry post !
I used to have my setting automatically set so that positive feedback was left automatically once the buyer paid. However, I started having a few problems when I would leave glowing feedback soon as the buyer paid, then they would leave negatives and neutrals without even contacting me to resolve the issue.
The problem here was I ended up with an unreasonable negative, and yet the buyer had a glowing positive. As a seller, we cannot leave a negative, which really annoys me.
So I changed my settings so that a positive was left once a positive was left for me. This works for me. Why ? SO that if a buyer leaves me a negative, then they just don;t get a feedback from me at all.
I can see both sides, but for me as a seller, who sells a lot of stuff, it works better for me to only leave feedback once positive feedback is left for me
