Why is it not compulsory to leave feedback?

I find it frustrating when I go to the bother to leave feedback which is always positive or at worst neutral (on 2 occasions, with slow postage) for the seller and yet I have had a few sellers not leave feedback. I have sent an email via eBay and no response. When I followed this up with eBay, I was informed that it is not compulsory to leave feedback, which I think is not in the best interest of all enaby users. I understand that we cna get busy & forget, but not to respond is just plain rude. The sellers need our feed back as much as we (the buyers) need theirs. I kknow that some eBay members can use feedback in a very negative way, but please can something be done to resolve this issue. I have kept a record of the sellers who do not leave feedback and won't be using them again.

Re: Why is it not compulsory to leave feedback?

So........you would like to make it compulsory for buyers to receive positive feedback (only feedback possible), but buyers can leave any kind of feedback for sellers?

Do you reckon that is a fair deal?

Since when has eBay ever been fair?

Just answered your own question.

As a seller I would prefer a buyer leave no feedback than be forced to leave a grudging one. I judge a buyer by the feedback they leave for others rather than by that which they receive,m which is forced by Ebay policy to be positive. Though the only time I would check is when they are showing as potentially difficult. By which time it's too late anyway. Ergo it is of no real value to anyone.

Re: Why is it not compulsory to leave feedback?

Ebay could just make it a function before the buyer can access ebay to buy again. It would be quicker to leave feedback than to set up a new account with another email address leaving behind your purchase and feedback history. As a seller I find it very frustrating that I dont get feedback in some cases, mainly because I cannot gauge my customers experience accurately which gives me the ability to make changes to better suit the buyers needs, but also it makes it very difficult to build a good reputation to be able to delivery a service to these buyers when feedback is not given because it looks like we have very little sales history, when in fact it is just over double what a buyer can see in the feedback log

Re: Why is it not compulsory to leave feedback?

Dead thread. There have been plenty of others about this in the 2 years since this thread was active.

if you read those you will find just about all options have already been discussed.

Re: Why is it not compulsory to leave feedback?

I very rarely look at my feedback, but just had a look, & I see 11 sellers have not left me feedback. I don't care & it doesn't worry me at all, because I know I got the item I paid for & was happy with it.

I bet if the system was set up for buyers NOT to get feedback (like most webites), you wouldn't even give it a second thought.

Re: Why is it not compulsory to leave feedback?

A.  You may not have noticed that this is a zombie thread (over a year old).

B.  Be careful what you wish for!  If it were compulsory for buyers to leave feedback before they could make their next purchase, there would be some very angry buyers out there.  Regular buyers may not be in a position to leave feedback yet as their recent purchases may not have arrived when they are making the next one.  Do we really want their buying patterns interrupted just because some sellers place too much emphasis on feedback?  Not so regular buyers may go months between purchases, and if they were suddenly confronted with the need to leave feedback for a seller they bought from months before, and couldn't proceed with their new purchase until it was done, they may just be inclined to leave less than glowing feedback to get it out of the way (particularly if they can't remember whether the item arrived on time).

C. Feedback is a moot point really, from next month it will mean nothing from a seller performance viewpoint, and as it is one-sided anyway (only buyers can leave neuts and negs), many people pay little attention to it.  In some cases, (big store sellers especially, whose monthly fee bills seem to give them special dispensations) it is far too easy to get negs removed, and in others (the smaller sellers who built their reputations the hard way) it is next to impossible.

Cheers,

Penny

Re: Why is it not compulsory to leave feedback?

I am just a buyer not a seller but I agree with others,  sellers should be allowed to leave negative feedback for buyers too.

It is unfair and should be changed.

As a buyer with a 100% positive feedback rating yeah it sounds and looks good but I look at it from another angle and that being the seller leaves me positive feedback because I am a buyer who pays for any auctions that I win or buy it now the instant I see that I have won the auction or when I buy it now.

I don't mickey mouse around if I bid on an item that I didn't mean to bid on yeah I know that sounds stupid but I have done that once or twice and if I win the auction I accept it was my mistake and I pay up.

I also leave positive feedback for all the sellers who have done the right thing by me in regard to any messages I have added to my payments plus if they post within a reasonable time.

For the couple of sellers that I have had difficulties with in the past rather than leave negative feedback I don't leave any feedback at all and I don't purchase from them again.

As for sellers not all of them leave me feedback but that is their choice and I don't chase them up.

I have bought over 500 items on ebay and I have NEVER had a seller take up an issue with me or report me for non payment.

That proposition has been proven in the past, when it was allowed, that unscrupulous sellers were using it as a payback for a legitimate buyer's neg to them.

That's why eBay brought in the NPB and strike system which will stop non-payers IF sellers go through the NPB process and have their BBL's set up................
