As a regular buyer of American products, I am being forced to look elsewhere for them. The ebay shipping program, which unboubtedly is easy for sellers, is prohibitively expensive for lower priced products. A small item is regularly charged at $50. This is more than double what I would charge for the same service, and Australia is The Most Expensive Postal Service in the World.
US sellers, if you want our business, wise up and post the item yourselves.

Simple, it makes money for Pitney Bowes. Some items like DVD's, record 45s, spare parts etc., you can pay up to 3 to 4 times what USPS charges. And look out if you get multiple items.

The response? Yes it is easy for me as a seller. If you don't like the cost, move on.
This was for an item with no bidders after three listings.
Go figure.
Many sellers I have contacted don't like GSP but have had it hoisted on the. Thanks for revitalising your old thread. No doubt it will incurr a mark from the usual one that has a go at me. LOL

I saw 2 items 2 weeks ago from a seller in the US. I sent her a message saying I really wanted both and asked would she consider revising one of her listings to include both items otherwise GSP would charge me 2 shipping costs. I said that I would still be purchasing one of the listings regardless. A few hours later I got a message saying the listing had been revised, so I purchased.
Not once did I ask her to change the shipping method. I didn't want her to lose her protection. As it was, for what I was getting, the GSP cost wasn't as steep as one might think. It was a lot more than what I'd have paid to get it sent domestic in Australia, but I looked at the overall cost. I've seen a lot steeper costs for way smaller items.
As for a listing that has relisted 3 times with no bidders, as a seller, I don't care. I won't tolerate someone telling me I should sell it for less because it relisted 3 times with no bids. That will earn them a rapid invitation to my party list. I have had items relisting for quite a long time. Every now and then a buyer will come along and knock them out. Sellers know their items will sell when the right buyer comes along. It's no different for US sellers. If it takes 6 months or 3 years to sell, they don't care.
SpoilerNow we sit back and wait for out resident GSP hater to chime in to yet another dredged up, old GSP thread.SpoilerI'm surprised this one wasn't dredged up before now!
LOL

Sadly for the bulk of the consumer, Global Shipping / Pitney Bowes is a crippler. Many of us cannot afford the huge costs and the options are greatly limited as many sellers who used to sell overseas aren't sure how to get rid of GS.

Well... there are a couple of items listed on eBay.com where I wish the seller did include the GSP.
To have these items sent to me through my usual channels would end up costing about $2000, because of the dimensions. That of course puts these items on the "No, ridiculous; that's not cost-effective" list.
I'd be willing to pay around $400 (USD) but $2000? That's not going to happen. Excuse me while I stomp my feet and pout.

Stomp and pout away Countess. You have my sympathy.....I know how it feels to have that happen.
I do have a backup for that situation now. My OH's nephew is a senior pilot with UPS and can usually get mate's rates when he comes to Australia, which is not all that often. I might have to wait months before he comes here.

Hi countessalmirena , wow that's a hefty amount! Just in the last month, a member here suggested an alternative that is more economical that GSP. Going though some international freight companies for very large items would be the way to go. I hope you find a way to get what you want.
Tragically for many of us who buy as collectors, or as investments with a view to re-sell, GSP is the all time king crippler!
A while back I purchased 5 x 45s, plus one different one. All the 5 were identical releases and at a bargain. They are an ivestment. Got the whole lot for around $14 USPS postage plus purchase price. If via GSP, I would have been up for about $60 to $70 or even more for postage. Kind of defeats the whole purpose. Another painful aspect to GSP is that many items that were obtainable via US and UK sellers are now out of reach because of the postage cost being tripled. Many of the sellers used to sell internationally but when GSP was attatched to their actions, they went with the flow. Some have begun to realise that they are losing sales as potential OS buyers are looking elsewhere. Many of us Ebay old timers wish for a return to the fun, hassle free good old days.
Cheers
