Why must I use Pay Pal and not Visa. I refuse to buy with Pay Pal so you just lost a few good sales.

A paypal account is actually useful not just for ebay but for other buying sites. A paypal account can be linked to your visa card, the beauty of it is that you don't have to type in your credit card details on new sites if they accept paypal.

If you're using it for a purchase or donation to charity, you aren't charged any fees. It's the seller paying the fees.

As for using paypal on ebay. There are a lot of sellers who also offer bank deposit & positively love it when buyers choose that but as a buyer, why would you? With paypal you have proof of payment & some buyer protection. This was proven to me a while back-not on ebay actually but another site- where I paid over $80 for 2 vouchers and almost 4 weeks later found the company had gone into receivership. I quickly put in a claim for a refund and got my money back via paypal. I thanked my lucky stars I had paid via paypal as a lot of other people lost money.

Ebay probably don't care whether you understand how paypal works or not. They get fees on sales, no matter how the buyer pays.

Indeed, funnily enough the exact same rant as was posted by another person three times yesterday morning, those got answers and then this person appears, same day,only just joined and made near identical comments. Funny how these things happen

The flippant answer is because that is the company that provides the primary payment processing service on eBay.

When you use Visa to pay for something online, the merchant is using a credit card processing facility provided by someone else - PayPal is one of the providers available, and also offers additional (optional, for buyers) account services. 

eBay chose PayPal as the primary payment processor that integrates with their checkout system because they bought it. They continue to choose PayPal because they are contractually obliged to, and have a financial incentive to keep the percentage of payments processed via PayPal at 80%+.

Come back in a year, or few I guess, because that contractual obligation has an expiry date and things may change (not for the better, based on the rumours I've read about, but change none the less).
