Yet Another Postage Question.....

Hi

I pose a question in relation to postage cost on purchased items.

would it be fair policy to request an actual postage reciept or a copy of the reciept with the item you purchase as you have paid for the

postage of the item.

Should EBay enforce this as standard practice when buying an item.

We recieve a reciept for the purchased item, why not for the postage that we pay for. This way we can indeed see what the actual

postage of the item really is.

i think this is a reasonable request as you recieve reciepts for everything you spend money on, so why not on postage you pay for.

I'm not referring to the paypal reciept, i'm referring to the "ACTUAL POSTAGE RECIEPT" from the post office or shipping company.

We have a right to view this reciept as we are paying for it.

impossible to enforce.

what about sellers who run a PO account and only pay (and get a receipt) once a month, often for hundreds of dollars.?

not every seller, in fact I'd say very few sellers, pay and get a receipt for ONE item at a time.

Re: Yet Another Postage Question.....

I think i have every right, legally! if a consumer pays for goods or service, then proof of those goods or service must be produced.

so what your saying is similar as the following;

you recieve a electricity bill with an amount for you to pay $600 only. You phone the electricity company and ask what is my usage

for the amount charged, they reply "you don't have the right to know" .

forward thinking or something to hide!

Re: Yet Another Postage Question.....

two completly diffrent  things.

as explained before postage is more than what post office charges.

do you think bubble wrap is free.

do you think posting boxes are free.

do you think sellers time in packing & traveling to post office is free.

most of my items cost $7.20 to post i charge $9.00 that $1.80 covers packing & handling. im yet to recive a complaint that i over charge postage.  plus ebay takes 9.9% in fees from postage now

Re: Yet Another Postage Question.....

yes interesting! dont forget - quotes/estimates are legally binding.

proof must be shown, unless of course you are bumping up the price for extra profits.

as a buyer why should we be charged commission not only for the item but also the postage price - Has EBay woken up to the

profiteering of sellers and the buyer are charged even more.

once again we the buyers have every right to a copy of the original postage receipt.

Oh well, it doesn't make sense to me. If you pay someone for a service you don't automatically get the right to crack their books and trawl through their costs.

Re: Yet Another Postage Question.....

what ever way you mark it up makes no diffrence.

as far as im concerned your legal right is read sellers terms & discription and then if you press buy now that is exceptable that you have agreed to postage cost and item cost. if you dont like the price of postage then your legal right is to continue your search elswhere.

The electricity company comparison isn't the same thing - that bill is variable according to what you use, so they show you an itemised list of what you used. If you get a paper bill, they charge you a few dollars as a fixed rate - do you ever see a breakdown of the postage, stationary, printing costs included on your bill if they sent one out to you?

No.

Has eBay woken up to the profiteering (as you call it)? I would say so - they jumped on the bandwagon and charge a seller fees on the postage a buyer pays. If anyone is profiting from postage here, it's ebay.

There is no mileage in a seller inflating P & H charges because we pay commission on those costs anyway. I sell using the so-called "Free Postage" system which just means that an amount to cover postage is include in the purchase price, along with any other costs I need to cover. I operate an Aust Post account , where I print my own postage and labels and am billed monthly. Even if I agreed that you are entitled to know the actual postage cost (which I emphatically don't agree with), I have no individual receipt to provide without a bucketload of paperwork - who would pay me to do that? How can you possibly claim a right to a copy of a receipt for a service I purchased?

The only person with a right to demand to see my receipts is the man/woman from the Australian Taxation Office.

The right everyone has, is to NOT buy from anyone who's costs seem too high.

Marina.
