I buy an item - pay immediately, but the seller takes 4 or 5 days to mail it. If they are not doing same day despatch they should indicate this on their site and I would then not buy. They demand payment within 3 days, we should demand despatch within the same time frame. EBay should have some sort of policy on this. When I buy ex East can take up to 10 working days to get here. Add a further 4 or 5 days before the item gets mailed, then this can mean it can take 3 weeks to get to WA.

Are you kidding Dave? I don't receive it for 3 days at the least,so is there a Bank that PayPal prefer to transfer money into in a day?
I usually get money from my payal account to my bank account overnight...and I know I am not with the same bank as Dave. It has nothing to do with paypal....the timing is all to do with your bank and when they do their transaction runs.
Any payments I make before 5.30pm are processed overnight and go to the bank of the payee by the next morning. From there it all depends on that bank and how soon they credit the funds to the payee.

I'm with the red W, and mine takes about 3 days

I know the waiting can be frustrating but it might be worth keeping in mind that some sellers might be relying on cold hard cash (cleared payment) so they have the funds IN their bank account or hand to PAY for the postage of item? Paypal might be wonderfully instant for buyers but not so for sellers is what I am thinking (and what I have been told by some sellers).

I know that all the banks now process payments on the same day or the next day as mine does, but I still don't receive payment from PayPal for 3 days so it isn't my bank that's taking so long so it has to be PayPal as I receive every other payment by the afternoon on the same day.

That's right most sellers do wait until the payment is in their own hands and many buyers don't like it when a seller states that item will be sent within 3 days when payment is made when it is actually 6 days before it is posted so sellers need to clearly state that when they receive cleared payment into their bank accounts then they will post.

Mine is the Dutch online one. As far as needing cash to pay for postage, I use Click and Send and I pay my postage with Paypal.

Just re-checked and mine was 8 days. Got here today, 2.5 weeks after I paid and is only a state over (however the opposite end). Left her neg feedback, I wouldn't have bought it if I knew it would take way after the estimated date to get here. Happy to wait if people want to transfer it to their bank account but state that in the ad, 8 days is not 3 days handling time. Plus she charged more to post than it actually cost her to and responded 'smartly' when I queried after a week when it would be posted.

They were one business day late in posting your item from what they said on their listing, then you penalized them for the inefficiency of Australia Post and you gave them a negative? They deserved a negative for being one day late?
Yikes.
