Back again, this time needing help with this brooch.

Thank you all for your patience with me. I really do appreciate it.

This brooch was my mother's. Whether or not it was handed down to her from her mother I have no idea.

As usual I have tried googling different words and word combinations, and done a google image search, but to no avail.

I doubt that the pink stones would be of any value, but that's just a guess. One of them is missing. I can't find any marks on the back of it.

Stones that have a solid backing do not let light through to enhance the stone.

The colour of the backing reflects the light back through the stone

I'm suggesting glass costume brooch dating from the 1940/50's.......IMO

Thanks, stawka. Much appreciated.

Yes, I don't think they'd be real gemstones. My parents wouldn't have been able to afford it. ๐Ÿ™‚

Spot on. Gilt metal and glass cabochons, the sort of thing really that would have been sold in Coles or Woolworths. Very affordable.

Well they certainly weren't wealthy, but I would've thought they could have done better than Coles or Woolies ๐Ÿ˜ž

My comment was certainly not meant as derogatory. In the 1940s 1950s many people would have seen big chain stores such as Coles or Woolies as the natural place to buy pieces of costume jewellery as small gifts. (Lots of other similar  shops of course long gone - in my area Snows, McDowells, Barters - hope I'm remembering correctly). In the 50's as small children we were "helped" to pick brooches like this for our grandmothers who wore them proudly on their coat lapels when they went to church or "Up to Town". Proudly of course because they came from the grandchildren. They would certainly not have felt insulted by such gifts.

No I didn't take any offence, siddie. I really appreciate everyone trying to help. ๐Ÿ™‚

And on a different note a shout out to all others up here in Brisbane and up as far as Gympie and now down northern NSW too. Hope you're all safe and haven't sustained too much damage. Take care.
