I find it amazing how our government "officials" can fly off all over the world but cant understand that the reason funding is tight for things is cause they are flying first class and staying in top hotels and eating fine food. The money that is spent on their travel alone could fund so much for kids with ASD or any other problems.
Our school asked the government for $1.2million in the big grant crap that came in this years budget. We got $2.1 million. This is to build a huge hall for our kids.So they will cut down trees and take away more valuable playing area to build this hall when it takes the kids 5 minutes to walk to the high school hall that is rarely used. This money could be better used in hiring more aides and reading teachers to help our kids that need it.Its mind bogling
I actually wrote to Mr Rudd early this year and asked him if he thought that Autism can be cured in 20 visits to specialists.I told him about the care plans and how a 20 visit one is a once in a lifetime plan.I also offered to send him all my bills for my sons treatment and travell costs and how in one year it would cost less than one trip for him and his cronies to go overseas.I also mentioned that he is lucky that he doesnt have to try to get help from the public system and that he should spend a week with a family of a child with ASD and see what we go through. The reply came from some noboby in the cellars of parliment house and wasnt worth the paper it was written on.
But at least we know one thing we have each other and we always know we cant vent our frustration in here where people will listen.
Cheers all Michelle
P.S sorry for ranting but the government get me so cranky.

This proves my point earlier in this thread about children with ASD within the SA school system.

Re: **AUTISM / ASPERGERS SUPPORT GROUP**

Oh Wolette its just not good enough. We do have some Autism specific schools here but often kids don't do well in either main stream and special which leads to other issues.

They certainly need to get with the times don't they, they can't continue to bury their heads in the sand and think it will go away. With one in 160 in SA being diagnosed it will soon be a much bigger problem than they have anticipated. So while they all sit on their hands our children are missing out on much needed resources.

Re: **AUTISM / ASPERGERS SUPPORT GROUP**

Today was my Mr 16's last official day of school, his first exam is on 5/11.

I am feeling sad, the last of my kids finishing school; he is feeling very sad, and hasn't come out of his room all night. He said he just doesn't want to talk to anyone. School is his entire social life, he has never been able to build relationships where he can do things outside of school, like other kids - going to the movies or concerts or whatever or just hanging out. the really hard part for him will come after exams, when he can't return to school at all.

He says he has contact details for his group of friends, I will have to make sure he uses them over the holidays, so next year at uni he can pick up friendships, I hope.

cheers
Rae

***sits near on the the corner facing the wall, knees tucked up and arms around knees, rythmically rocking back and forth hitting the wall with forehead every time I go forwards***

Roll on the end of the year - I am so, so, so sick of this &^#$&*$*$ teacher!!!

HUGS Kiwi, sometimes it sucks doesn't it lol I'm sorry you are having a hard time with a less than helpful teacher ๐Ÿ˜

Only about 8 more weeks hang in there ๐Ÿ™‚
I am so over homeschooling like majorally and I hate I have no other option.

For the first time in years I decided to get some respite next week so I can actually have time out with OH without the kids.
