PnP big (((HUGS)) I still have vivid memories of when my girls were little and the meltdowns they would have in the shops. They were so intense that the therapists of the day told me to not take them. But I did and now well they can't keep away, they are shopping divas lol.

Sorry it was such a hard day for you and the lil one.

Catmad thanks for your encouragement back a few posts. Yeah I'm annoyed at the doctor, some are so totally clueless. However in saying that hopefully given time there will be a greater understanding on his part. He is young and impressionable so maybe this is a learning curve for him too!

Thanks Bella!! There's certainly some things for me to look into. Yes, I do feel more empowered now I understand why he is 'different' but for him to understand it too is going to help us all as a family.
Thanks again and big (((((hugs)))))

Dazzle, it is really important to get your son professionally assessed so that he has access to all the help that is out there. With a diagnosis from a peady you will be able to get psychology help which in turn will teach him life skills.

Do not think you have to deal with this alone just because you home school. :-x

Thanks Rae for your reply. We actually homeschool our son

dazzlejazz, I homeschooled my son as well for 3 years, Yrs 7-9, he chose to return to a senior selective school in Yr10, where he completed the International Baccalaureate Diploma. I am a great believer in the homeschooling option for kids like ours, my experience was that it was nothing but positive for my son ๐Ÿ™‚

But as Bella points out the diagnosis does allow you to claim the Isolated Childrens Allowance and the Carer Allowance which is a huge help in defraying the costs of homeschooling

cheers
Rae

it is just so hard, as the mother of Mr Almost 12, who has Asperger's.

His behaviour can be difficult and he gets so frustrated and angry

About 2 years ago, he had a huge meltdown and was screaming and crying
and got a knife from the kitchen and held it to his neck and said he was going to kill himself

The new small private school has made a big difference

he has not been perfect and there have been issues, but I can now get him to school on time so I suppose that is a big difference

ash, that's great that you have found a school where your boy is more comfortable - must make things a lot easier for you too.
