All Things Gardening ๐ŸŒน

Iโ€™ve only been interested in gardening in the last prob 8 yrs, so, by all means, Iโ€™m still learning and I have had many plants die despite me *nursing* them, sometimes, even lovingly ๐Ÿ˜‚โ€ฆ. But such is the life of a plant I guess.

Iโ€™m hoping that on this board, we can share our plant pics, what works, what doesnโ€™t, give some handy hints and some solutions for those hard to grow plants.

I confess, I prefer my plants in pots, and now that I actually have a sort of greenhouse area, Iโ€™m loving it immensely.

And to top it all off, Iโ€™ve just right now purchased 3 x pink princess philodendrons ๐Ÿ’‹

Oh Lordy lordโ€ฆ.. Iโ€™m so excited about these babies. These ones will stay inside with me until they grow a bit stronger.

Probably the expense of hiring a cherry picker could be covered by getting the lot professionally done.

For them a couple of hours work - they take away the offending rubbish.

They have all the proper equipment & insurances etc.

Here they are!

You have to keep in mind these are a success story, over a month old and not completely dead yet.๐Ÿ˜

And a view looking down.

I don't normally keep them outside in full sun. In fact the one in wrapping has been sitting inside on the table.

Yesterday they were in part shade prioer to the photos.

Just to add, when I was given them, they were lush and a mass of red leaves. Poor things are shadows of their former selves.

Re: All Things Gardening ๐ŸŒน

I've never had one survive, even after following gardening advice online.

The red leaves are apparently flowers and not leaves at all.

Here's what google says -

How long does a poinsettia last?

2 to 3 months

Answer: If given good care in the home, poinsettias should remain attractive for 2 to 3 months. Toss the poinsettia when you grow tired of it or it becomes unattractive. For those home gardeners who enjoy a challenge, it is possible to get the poinsettia to bloom again next season.

Re: All Things Gardening ๐ŸŒน

With good care, they can last for years.  They have been known to grow like a small tree/shrub and I have seen them in gardens with filtered light but I prefer potted plants myself.

They need GOOD indirect light, LOTS of water during the hot months and if possible, away from sudden drops in temp.

Get rid of that fancy paper around the pot, for a start.  When wet, the dyes could be leaching into the soil.

If the top of the soils seems dry, water it.
Get a spray bottle and spray the leaves often, especially in summer of hot weather.

A bit of slow release fertiliser wouldnโ€™t go astray (I use osmocote pellets)

If you intend on repotting them, use a good quality  potting mix.

They can go a bit dormant in the cooler months, so a nice well lit sunny room thatโ€™s not too cold will be ideal spot, when the time comes.

Re: All Things Gardening ๐ŸŒน

They are really quite interesting.

When you say cooler months - I went to a Christmas Dinner in San Francisco - large home - heaps of steps to the door.

Every step had one each side - to the door - it's Winter in SF - at Christmas.

Though they enjoy much they same climate as we do here - still Winter.??

I read at least 6 hours of good indirect light a day - but then another said - plant out in a sunny spot.

Who knows.

Well done Springy - you have 2 leaves left. lol

I feel I am doing a public duty almost.๐Ÿ˜

After people see mine, think how happy they will be about their own plants.

I've set the bar pretty low.
