Flashie 'mostly farmers' sounds so peaceful.
I love the fact that because my mob are well known I have good records for them and they go back into ancient times, but really what a pack of trouble so many of them were.
A lot of them ended up in the Tower of London or dead of some ancient battle field.. some of them were barely out of their teens, had sired a child and then were killed - or their mothers died at childbirth at the tender age of 13

It makes my hair stand up on end even tho the journey through history has me thoroughly addicted.
Ele that sounds very likely - the Welsh border connection, that is exciting... try Googling Time Team and a few other archeological sites to see if you can find what work has been done on the Cornovii... you might find something of interest there.
Have a look at this, you might find something here:

Flashie I don't know that any Royalty really knows
which is the wrong side of the blanket... It seems a lot of my ancestors were sired on their concubines or mistresses... nor do I think for one moment they are 'royal' in the right sense...
'Royalty' really is confined to the gods and it believed that royal families were descended from the gods! I am not convinced that our understanding of royalty is really royal at all :^O
Roughly speaking, English Royalty didn't really set as we know it today under one king until William the Conqueror in 1066 and by then the Scots Royalty had begun in earnest with Malcolm II in the early 1,000s when he united all of Scotland under one rule, which is what William did in England some years later.
There had been kings all over the UK all ruling their little clans, but to actually unite all of the clans under one rule took time
Scottish kings:

Gil the 'Bowes' were one family and the 'Lyons' another until they united and joined both names for the future family.
Then of course, sometimes descendants would not bother with both names and just use one name, and so you get confusion

Like, my cousin belongs to the McKellar-Whites, but he only uses the 'White' name.
Aawwhhh chuck what a lovely story with your Mum hearing about Flashies news... isn't that just the best thing ever? I warms my heart when this sort of thing happens..
Yes Ele the trouble with tracing ancient trees is you can never be sure if the child that is your gggggg grandparent is really a blood kin or a ring in. It sort of goes with the territory I fear.

A couple of my line go back to the dim and distant past of the 300 ADs but I do take that with a good tablespoon of salt :^O It's possible and likely but....
Have a happy hunting day everyone
