Anyone else into seeking their ancestors?

I have become adicted to Ancestry.com and am lucky enough that one side of my family can be researched way back into the dim times.

The other side has hit a brick wall and I have to wait until someone else in the world may have more information.

How is everyone else going?

Re: Anyone else into seeking their ancestors?

Getting close flashie... do hope all is well and you are a Nanny to a beautiful baby wotnot ๐Ÿ™‚

What a joy eh?

We are waiting with baited breath xxx

Well I'm ancestried out for the moment. The wretched rellies just keep coming.

I spend time concentrating on different aspects of their lives... battle they fought, castles they lived in, people they killed... little girls they married... oh boy!

Girls could be married at 12 and boys at 14.. legally... this meant any number of young women died in childbirth and miraculously some survived to have more children.

We think today is a hard and difficult world, but really, compared to the past... phew!

It's crazy.

I'm going to go back to my father and write up all his WWII experiences.... my mother save his letters and then took out the personal stuff and wrote out the rest. I really must get it down.

Have a good evening all ๐Ÿ™‚ xx

Re: Anyone else into seeking their ancestors?

Darkie, where do you get all the information from going back in to the 1600's and before?

I have been using the UK archives, but it gets costly to keep buying documents. I have people in my tree going back to the mid 1400's, but I want to verify all the information because, at this stage, I have just taken it from what other people have in their trees. And they dont seem to have much supporting evidence uploaded or many source citations.

Re: Anyone else into seeking their ancestors?

I Google just about everything punch. You can put in the name of the person or say, "Smith's family tree" or a lot of the time when I am hunting for ancient battles I put in "Scotland's battles", or "British Battles"

I did research on convicts in the late 1700s and found any amount of stuff.

It's a matter of realising just about everything you need to know is in Google if you search and try different wording.

There is "Castles in the UK" for instance, or "Coat of arms" and you can put in the family name or county or whatever.

If you want more about the person sometimes it is a good idea to research, for example, 'living in the 1600s' or words to that effect.

'Plagues in Europe' might bring more information..

It's incredible what you can find if you keep using Google.

Have some fun ๐Ÿ™‚
