Anyone else into seeking their ancestors?

I have become adicted to Ancestry.com and am lucky enough that one side of my family can be researched way back into the dim times.

The other side has hit a brick wall and I have to wait until someone else in the world may have more information.

How is everyone else going?

Re: Anyone else into seeking their ancestors?

It looks like he must have lost his parents rather young.......I don't know if there is a connection to this family.

But Mary Bustin appears to have died prior to the 1901 census and that could explain why he immigrated.

And Edward Bustin is a saddler. I know he's not Georges dad, but it still fits in doesnt it.

Re: Anyone else into seeking their ancestors?

It makes sense he would say that since Edward and Mary Bustin appear to have brought him up.

I am now looking for a connection between these families........it might be through the Skinner line.

But I haven't been able to find the marriage between Mary Skinner and George Underhill.

According to FreeBMD there are no marriages between any Skinner and Underhill.

Re: Anyone else into seeking their ancestors?

Looks like Mary Bustin died in 1885, so I'm guessing its sometime between then and 1891 that George came here. I did find an Underhill that was a stowaway on a ship to Sydney just before. I think the timing fits, I'll go have another look.

Re: Anyone else into seeking their ancestors?

Yep, you can find it on Ancestry. George Underhill was a stowaway on the Cambrean Prince in 1886. Love to know if he's the right one.

Re: Anyone else into seeking their ancestors?

I saw that too Punch..........I was very disappointed they didn't have an age for him.......but given his apparent history it is quite likely it is him.

Re: Anyone else into seeking their ancestors?

I spent they day trying to sort out the George Underhills.

I wrote down all theones born between 1830 and 1870....there were 14 of them (that had either John or nothing as a middle name)

I managed to eliminate 7 of them 100%.

But I kept coming back to the one born in 1863 in Warwick Warwickshire.................I could eliminate him.....now we know why.

Re: Anyone else into seeking their ancestors?

Theres definitely some kind of link between the Bustins and Underhills. The Bustins had another boarder 10 years earlier, he was George Rathbone, a nephew from Leamington. There were also some Bustins in Leamington. I wondered whether Mary Bustin was born Skinner, but I think she was Hitchcox.
