Septipus I am going around in circles here...so I am going to stop looking for tonight.
I was wondering though to help with a time line can you tell us if in his Army record it says if he was married....or who his next of kin was.
When and where did he sign up.......I know he was serving for 29 years....so his discharge date will help too.
I can see why you are stuck.

According to my very blotchy photocopy of his discharge papers he enlisted on the 25th day of april 1806. He returned to England in 1823. it mentions that his resided in Cromdale Inverness when he enlisted. it also mentions Grantsburg or Grantswup? not at all sure its very inky . Discharged on the 9th june 1828.
Mystery man. It also has the word incorrect written over part of the record. Can i try to scan it and email it to you? maybe you can make it out better than i can?
Maybe i should try to follow where his regiment was posted in what years?

I think we might have something wrong Septipus.
He couldn not have enroled in 1808.....he was not born until 1798......that would make him 10 years old.
And that enrolment was only for 5 years....earlier his discharge papers said 29 years service.

Gee I wish we could edit our posts.......that shoudl read 1806 for enlistment.

I'd love to see a copy of it. Are you 100% sure that the papers are for the correct person.
It just doesnt seem like all the dates add up correctly. Almost as though there is some extra information that may be from the wrong Alexander Stewart that is throwing everything off.
If you have already sent it to flashie, she can forward it to me, otherwise I will send you my email address.

Flashie, I wouldnt discount the fact that he may have been born earlier than 1798, his death certificate could be wrong.
Stll though, 1806 does seem really early. I wonder if its posible that it was his dads service record, not his?
