Anyone else into seeking their ancestors?

I have become adicted to Ancestry.com and am lucky enough that one side of my family can be researched way back into the dim times.

The other side has hit a brick wall and I have to wait until someone else in the world may have more information.

How is everyone else going?

Re: Anyone else into seeking their ancestors?

Punch.....I did do some searching further back just incase Kaya wanted to know.

I will hook it out later and type it up here....unless Kaya would prefer it be sent to her privately.

Re: Anyone else into seeking their ancestors?

I am not sure if who we were searching is the right ones now Punch.

If Kaya has the right birthdate of Elsie Lumb then the family I have is wrong.

What have you come up with.

I still think the Frank Lumb family sound right.

Kaya....do you know if your Elsie had a middle name?

Re: Anyone else into seeking their ancestors?

This thought just came into my head.

I remember my dad Stanley Rostron once telling me that he was never allowed to call his grandfather anything other than Mr Hird.

So if that helps in any way, to trace further back, at least its a name to search thatmay help in relation to my Rostron back ground.

Re: Anyone else into seeking their ancestors?

I have

Rostron, James  - Head b1863 Loom Overlocker

   "          Harriet - Wife b1864  Housework

"          James - Son  b1890  Coal Miner  (married less than 1 year)

   "          William - Son  b1892  Coal Miner

   "          Samuel - Son b1896  Clerk

   "          Mary - Daughter b1899  School

   "          May - Daughter  b1901  School

   "          Elsia - DIL  b 1893  Weaver in Mill

All born lancashire except Elsie

I'm pretty sure this is the right James & Elsie, we just need to work backwards from here.

kaya is it possible that Stanleys grandfather was Mr Hange, rather than Mr Hird?

Re: Anyone else into seeking their ancestors?

I made a mistake about Elsie Lumb, her DOB was 5th May 1891 and Christened in Chadderon Manchester on 17th.May

Her father was William Thomas Lumb DOB ?

Mother was Alice Ann DOB ?

I think William Thomas siblings were Benjamin 1866

Eliza Jane 1874

Martha 1876

William Thomas Lumb mother was Sussanah from Earsden ?

not really sure to be honest.

I must admit that this little bit has taken me a year to find. Thats how bad I am at this ๐Ÿ˜ž

Elsie Lumb was the mother of Samuel, Frank, James and Stanley.

My problem seems to be in tracing the Rostron side of the family.  I've asked my mother who is 83 this year, she just says that no one ever talked about the past !

Stanley Rostron DOB 25 Sept 1923 and his father James are pretty much a mystery. Other than James died of liver cancer from being a drunk.

Can't imagine what life was like in his house hold ๐Ÿ˜ž

Re: Anyone else into seeking their ancestors?

Haven't heard of Hange, My dad just said it was funny how he was never allowed to refer to his grandfather in any other way than Mr Hird (Hurd) (Heard) I don't know how it was spelt

Dad passed away in 1992 so I can't be positive about the spelling

but it was definitely sounding like Hird.

I wondered about William Thomas Lumbs wife who - Alice Ann

could she have been Alice Ann Hird ?

Whoever Mr Hird was,  my Dad never forgot what a *hard* and grumpy man he was.

Off to bed

Have a good night

Thank you ๐Ÿ™‚

Ok, that definitely helps.

I am going to work on the family above as being the correct one.

James and Elsie married in the first quarter of 1911 adn the census was taken on the 3rd April. So they were definitely married for the census. The only other James Rostron/Elsie marriage would have been, most likely, after the census. Unless it was on the 1st or 2nd April.

Re: Anyone else into seeking their ancestors?

Alice Ann's maiden name was Worrell. They married in 1886.

Flashie do you want to do one side each? I'll do Rostron and you can do Lumb? Or vice versa?

kaya, are you 100% sure you have the correct Elsie? Because she is still living with her parents in the 1911 census, and she should have been married by then.
