Anyone else into seeking their ancestors?

I have become adicted to Ancestry.com and am lucky enough that one side of my family can be researched way back into the dim times.

The other side has hit a brick wall and I have to wait until someone else in the world may have more information.

How is everyone else going?

I've found a few of mine in the papers as drunk and disorderly, dont think any had alcoholism as a cause of death though.

I have found a surprising amount of suicides too which is kind of disturbing, I guess a lot of people had it pretty tough back then though.

I've found one suicide, she was the daughter of my grt grandfathers first wife. Her mother and all her siblings died young she was the only one left. Her mother died in her 20's. So sad.

I haven't found a single convict in my tree Hmpf!

Hubby has no convicts in his tree either Clair.

I have heaps on my mothers side.............heaps and heaps and heaps.

None on my father side though...............he was the first in his family to leave his native place.

My mum came here from England when she was 13 so ther's nothing on that side. Then on my dad's side one convict guard and one I thought came out on a brides ship but I just received her death cert and it said 'married in Ireland' so although I think they came out on a brides ship I read about bride ships to W.A. that:  Ships did arrive with single women aboard........... every ship bearing young single women also bore a similar number (sometimes more) of young single men, and married couples...........................and some of the young women brought to the colony were of ‘dubious’ character.  Some of the people engaged to  carefully select the young women who could emigrate were more interested in the money per head they received, and filling the passenger quotas on the ships than they were in the ‘quality’ of the passengers.

Then two other couples were married right before they came out also, in fact I found the shipping record for one couple last night 🙂

I have done so much work on my tree and I love that Carol's headstone photos she's quick and it's really quite excellent 🙂

I also rang my 2nd cousin in Perth and she told me one of my 2nd grt grandmothers was illegitimate (hmm?) and her half brothers parish records in Scotland says born in filth and uncleanliness

Next time you're at the cemetery (well, I hope you don't have a reason to go there IYKWIM) I have a rellie or two buried in the Sandhurst cemetery (now bendigo?) in 1885 and the other is in the Eaglehawke cemetery in 1908. Some of the rellies on that side are named

Whitlaw Whitla, Bryar, Bawden,Reseigh,Burgess......any names ring a bell with your past ?

Hi soul I've never been to the Bendigo cemetery but if I do I'll let you know 🙂

I did however today go to the Creswick cemetery to see the unmarked grave of three little babies

Hubby took me traipsing through what he thought was a family cemetery on the weekend................all of it up hill......we had to dodge huge cow pats............climb through fences................and none of them belonged to hubby....(just to clarify......no headstones belonged to hubby..................well.....no cow pats either)

I think the church is not a part of it anymore.............it looked like someone was living in there.
