Anyone else into seeking their ancestors?

I have become adicted to Ancestry.com and am lucky enough that one side of my family can be researched way back into the dim times.

The other side has hit a brick wall and I have to wait until someone else in the world may have more information.

How is everyone else going?

What I do is open an email and save it as a draft every time I find something.....so eventually it is all kept together....that way you can add to each family as the information comes up......I just label them Chuk1....Chuck2....Chuk3.....etc.

Just don't forget to save it periodically

just so everyone knows....

flashie has traced family back to 1809

and punch traced some back to the 1750's if I've read the tree right:O

they found more surnames

and interesting little tid bits

including  one being part of a party that explored the Northern Territory.

We have ships they came to Australia on time and dates of marriage and names we never heard of.

They both have been amazing

Well done to all involved.  I think we all dream of our family info coming together like that. :-x

Thanks flashie, Its probably similar to what I sent, but because I sent mine in dribs and drabs we ended up with some confusion over the spelling of names etc.

I tended to start sending an email and then I would keep searching as I was drafting the email and then keep adding bits and pieces to it. Once I got back to any family trees already available on ancestry, I did some screenshots.

As I mentioned earlier chuk, if you want any more detailed information, copies of censuses etc, I can provide those. Particularly the people on the screenshots I sent you, there will be informatin available on those people that I can give you if you want it.

lol, the 1911 UK census has a column for "Infirmity" that has only just been made public.

This is part of the email that Find My Past sent about it.

As well as new information about your family's health, it's also possible to catch a glimpse of your ancestors' eccentricities and humour. The census image on the right shows us that Percy Larrad from Lincs recorded his sister-in-law Eliza Rebecca Frith as having a 'bad temper'!

Other examples we've found in the infirmity column include, 'A taste for drink combined with gout', 'stron and hearty would like to be married' and 'sound as a bell thank god'. Don't miss your chance to get this rare insight into your ancestors' personalities.

My brickwall

Name is Alexander Stewart. born Cootehill Ireland 1793 died 13-1-1874 According to Death certificate. but no birth records for there. According to Army discharge papers born Inverness. Married first time to Martha Stewart(no maiden name) Scotland. Served in the 74 or 75 th foot.Colour Sergeant. Served in France . Went to the USA while still in army. First wife and two daughters went as well(how or why?) returned alone to England and was Discharged after serving for 29 years. First wife apparently died in America and his two children remained in America( have copies of letters sent to the Aussie half siblings from there) Married second time 23-12-1844 to Margaret Bell at st andrews sydney.

I know that his father was also in the Army and was a Captain who served in the 63 rd and the other irish regiment.

I cannot find any immigration papers  nor can i find anything on his parents, no names at all just fathers occupation etc on death certificate

it asks more questions than answers..lol fascinating
