Aust Post is considering charging us to get post delivered

"Welfare and business groups say any move by Australia Post to charge a fee for mail delivery would disadvantage low-income earners and regional areas."

I can also say that my 2 local Post Offices are always packed.

I have a small one at the local shop and a big one at Westfield down the road and they both always have a line up and at Chrissy time, the lines go out the door.

I guess not everything can be done online

I get most of my bills via email, but I still get mail almost everyday too, mostly business stuff. Not that this will affect me, we dont have postmen in our backwads part of the world.

Can't see how it would matter too much if the postie came every second day for most people. I assume some business areas may still get daily delivery.

Re: Aust Post is considering charging us to get post delivered

A couple of weeks ago I elected to have all of my regular bills (phone & internet, council rates, electricity, insurance) sent either by email or B-pay view, then barely a week later my PC crashed and I was off-line for a few days. I am now seriously rethinking my decision.

These proposed changes only to letters. Parcels (over 500gms) are delivered by contractors. The amount of parcels being delivered is growing by huge amounts due to online shopping.

Lol at living through computer.. simply because bills and emails arrive in there via the internet from time to time, which is cost effective for the person sending them and saves a lot of trees in the long run). Technology is part of everyday life for those who wish to embrace it rather than be stuck in the past.

You can't stick your emails to the fridge with a fridge magnet.

Is it saving trees?  Once there is less paper needed maybe forests will not be maintained and replanted as much and it could cause less trees.

You can print emails out and stick them where ever you want.

I had an elderly uncle who embraced technology, he printed out every email and filed them in folders. After he died, his children were quite pleased as they were able to keep the copies of all the personal emails they had sent each other.
