Yes and then there are parents like me that have foxtel latest iPhones iPads for my kids and they work to the maximum, in fact my internets allowance is 500 gigs.

Congratulations Donna, I dont know your circumstances, but it sounds like you have great kids to be proud of .

Its not the people ( young and old ) like your kids that this thread is about. Once again, its about the lazy slugs who just dont want to contribute to society in any way and just regard it as their right to recieve welfare payments, taking resources that should be available to people in genuine need.

I am not saying it is impossible.  My own daughter found herself weekends/school holidays job when she was 14 - she did not tell them and being tall and mentally matured, nobody asked questions until few weeks later when they had to fill some forms, but by then they just loved her, and her attitude to work, and she was turning 15 in few week time. 

I too did some fruit picking, but I also did not last, because I just was not physically capable.  Not everybody is.  I just wanted to make some money during holidays; I was very disappointed that I was not up to it.  Nor is everybody capable to shear a sheep, and I doubt that farmers would be happy to let unskilled kids ripping their sheep into bits.   And the pay is nothing like it used to be, and you have to travel; that is just not something that 16 years old on the dole can do.

I am not saying that getting job is impossible; it just lot more difficult than it used to be.  I just resent when people have no compassion for young unemployed kids.  Just because  years ago we worked hard and even going to apply for dole would have been considered shameful by my family, does not mean that we have the right to put nowadays kids down. 

Shy awkward kid, not speaking very well, and not physically strong will have harder time, than somebody like my daughter.

I don't envy any person that lives off the system by choice, equally I don't envy anyone in genuine need for employment and cannot find work, I don't envy the sick or anyone that is getting welfare. Some people use services more than others - this will always be the case. It is why we pay taxes and a huge reason why the medicare co-payment never made it through, it is simply an unfair system.

Do you tolerate the fact that a large percentage of recipients are ripping off the genuine needy persons ?

Is that acceptable to you?

Any system is open to exploitation and there will always be people exploiting it, we in Australia need social security, payments for those either transient between jobs or find it harder than the average person to secure work. Losing that system of security will cause a far greater crisis than the few (albeit substantial few) who "abuse" it. And even then those who abuse must face the known certainty that many luxuries in life they simply will never get.
