Computer question

My laptop has become very slow to load sites.

Is there any way that I can speed it up? This has only happened recently.

I have a current AVG Security to stop bugs, so am not sure what is wrong.

Re: Computer question

12, 16 Mbps download.

That is quite fast for ADSL, or so I was told
based on what I could expect.

Yes, it is. It's not good for those who upload though.

Re: Computer question

Honestly, how many seriously upload ?

I can get by with 3 Mbs and I am not hindered at all.

Hence why I can't see the need for 45 Mbs by NBN by a lot of households.

And therein lies one of the problems.  You measure every household against your own single person needs.

Most households have more people and more users of technology.  Our usage of data is increasing every year and will continue to increase at a rapid rate into the future.

Re: Computer question

No actually, I don't.

I measure it agaisnt 3 teenagers and two adults, the 3 kids playing games and watching videos on line

and the two adults, one on facebook, me on here or ebay or somewhere.

I know what their usage is as I set it up and watch it.

Yes, usage is increasing.

On line stremaing of films is what will really create the need.

The rest is just "nice to have" but not needed to survive.

If you're doing all that on 2.75Mbps you must be on buffering parade.

Frankly, I don't believe there could be 3 people streaming decent quality videos at once.

Re: Computer question

That is my speed where I am at now.

I'll test their house tonight.

I don't think it is over 5 or 6 Mbs.

2 tend to play games, one watches a lot of youtube.

I'll post later.

Re: Computer question

Jean I know your immediate problem is solved but there is a free little program you can get that cleans up your computer and helps with the slow down. It's called CCleaner, download, install and I run it weekly, cleans out lots of rubbish, you'll be surprised.

Chrome also uses a lot of memory at times and can makes things run slow, I still prefer it to other browsers though.

My ping rate is 24 just don't ask about the DL and UL.

Re: Computer question

Everybody can laugh at me now if ya like, but....

I have about 15 tabs open all the time.

I find if I close down facebook it runs faster (slightly)

I think FB chews up a lot

stawka

You might be running out of memory on your computer and it uses HD space which is slower. That is one possibility.

But yes, FB has lots of piccies etc.
