The problem is where do you get masks? Bunnings is out of them. i ordered some on line from Australian seller, and they are marked as posted, but eBay took the listing off yesterday. They are due to be delivered today, so fingers crossed.
The girls in our local PO were wearing masks when I visited last week and they told me AP will be selling them as of next week. I do have 2 of the proper masks N95 that I got when we had all the smoke, but I am saving them for later if I have to go anywhere really crowded. They have only limited use and I already used them for the smoke.
The government has ordered millions of masks for the health workers. But surely, these things are not that difficult to make if you know how; any manufacturer with sewing machines can stitch them together if they are given access to the appropriate fabric. That should have been organized back in early February.

My experience 24/03/2020 abvout 8:30 - 9:00 am
At the front door C/link staff ask you 2 questions before allowing admittance - have you been overseas recently and have you been in contact with a known covid-19 case ? or words to that effect
If you answer no for both , then the rationale is that you can not be a viral threat so admittance is granted.
Only 9 clients at a time allowed in
Once in the foyar awaiting front desk consultation - you stand on the taped x , which is a couple of meters away from the other 8 x's who have other clients dolefully standing upon.
Moving up the queue means stepping from one x to the other as indicated by an arrow ( taped)
Consulting at the front desk : stand at the taped line 1.5 meters from the desk ( ala Blues Brothers film opening scene, and with about as much emotional gravity )
Most likely be directed for a specialist interview - wait sitting on a single chair placed 1.5 meters away from the next in all directions
That's inside the building. I was referring to the lines of people waiting
outside. If there was a shortage of masks why was that shortage not
addressed months ago?

Not sure about now but the Chinese suspected otherwise

I would take that with grain of alt; but I imagine when people were carted off to the isolation camp or to hopital, their pets were left hungry roaming streets and authorities just killed them. That is what happenens in time of war and emergencies. I remember seeing Syrian woman walking to Europe some years ago, she was carrying her ginger cat. Hope they made it to safety.

Months ago we did not know about the coronavirus. The only people I used to see with face masks were Asians. When the virus first struck the Prime Minister said there was no need to wear a face mask. But things have changed for the worse. Ironically, I still see very few people wearing masks. But good news - " Australian Government secures additional 54 million face masks to contain coronavirus outbreak".

NFS we didn't know as you me and us, but they knew this was
going to worsen. They should have been stock taking medical
equipment/supplies whilst doing the same for medical personnel.
But they failed and that has no doubt helped with the spread.
Likewise the Border Force or whoever was in charge of the cruise
ships entering Aus.

So what would you suggest?
Planes are grounded, and empty. Few places to fly to.
Should they just fly around and around in a circle?
As awful as it is these are not the only people to lose jobs by far.
Hopefully Govt packages can help them ............
