Disgusting as the Wet Markets are (shudder)...do we know for sure this is where the virus originated?

Or is it just China-bashing?

Re: Coronavirus update

The other day somebody was wondering why it takes so long to get vaccine:

These are the steps:

  1. Isolate and study the structure of the virus. This has been done.
  2. Determine how to use structures on the virus that might induce immunity in humans.
  3. Find an appropriate animal model and test it for safety and effectiveness.
  4. File a New Drug Application (with the FDA, but it’s the same in almost all developed countries) for the vaccine candidate.
  5. Start a Phase 1 clinical trial. The vaccine is given to about 100 healthy volunteers. This does not show long-term safety or effectiveness, just whether there are any serious safety signals. This Phase takes up to a year.
  6. Start a Phase 2 clinical trial if the FDA finds the data from the Phase 1 study acceptable. In this phase, around 100 patients receive the vaccine compared to 100 who are given a placebo. The patients are randomized between groups and the physicians are blinded as to whom receives the vaccine or placebo. This Phase also takes up to a year.
  7. Start a Phase 3 clinical trial if, once again, the FDA finds the data from the Phase 2 study acceptable. Similar to the Phase 2 study, this is a randomized, double-blind study that includes around 3000 total patients. This phase takes 2–3 years.
  8. The FDA reviews all of this data, then determines if it is approved for use.
  9. Then we have to manufacture the vaccine. This isn’t easy, because there isn’t a lot of capacity worldwide to manufacture billions of doses of a new vaccine. Facilities will have to be built, or they convert current vaccine manufacturing to this new COVID-19 one. But that leads to issues like harming the supply of other important vaccines for measles, mumps, diphtheria, tetanus, etc.

Out of the 41 people who were infected back in December, 40 visited the market, but the one, who I believe got sick before the other had nothing to do with the market.  nobody knows for sure if it originated at the market.  It i easy to blame the market, bu not much helpful.  We need to know for sure.  It' like arresting person for murder, and putting them away, it make us feeling good that "justice was done" but if years later it is discovered that the person was innocent, it means not just his ruined life, it also means that murderer got away with it.  And in the case of the virus we need to know where it really came from to understand it and get a cure.

When the Wuhan market was raided there were no signs of bats or pangolins; of course, it took a time to close the market and the stall holders may have cleaned up.

By the way, I used to go to Vic market in Melbourne, some 20 year ago the fish and meat section looked pretty disgusting; actually my then partner would stop breathing when we went in.  Not sure what is it like now.

So we don't know for sure? If not, it could be China-bashing?

i sure do, our premier is the moron who didnt make it against the law to travel to holiday houses over easter

and i posted that several times

as well as saying our state govt has actually done very little re the virus besides closing the borders.

his entire package to help anyone one was 300 million dollars of which i doubt anyone took advatage of because it was so targeted.

its been sheer luck we havent had a larger spread of the virus, it hasnt been for our tough govt.

of those who have died in SA several are directly tied to the ruby princess. his closing the borders didnt stop infected people coming back into the state!
