That is NOT supported by any evidence. Quite on contrary, every migrant creates 2 plus new jobs.
Lies, Damn lies and statistics. The real evidence is clearly there for anyone to see if they bother to open their own eyes rather than simply regurgitating the twaddle trotted out by leftist spokespeople.
Real wages and living standards falling for many years now. ( and plenty of people here on the forums have grizzled about this ) Social security payments lagging behind increases in living costs such as utilities costs and rents. ( and plenty of people here on the forums have also rightly grizzled about this ) A continuing decline in people owning their own homes. New home buyers struggling more over time to enter the market as real estate prices in our major capital cities increase dramatically in real terms. This forces both parents into the workforce and results in high demand for expensive child care, further placing pressure on young families. Ever increasing commute times for workers as roads become more clogged due to increases in population and people forced further from business centres.
Few entry level jobs available for young people as these are taken by new arrivals who may be well educated, but their qualifications are not recognised here. Fewer training positions available in the professions as these jobs are taken by migrants. The police and health care sectors have very high percentages of staffing filled by migrant workers. These are prime examples of professions where new migrants are taking skilled jobs that our young people could be training for. etc. etc.
These are the real impacts of our very high immigration intakes, lowering living standards for existing residents and increasing incomes for the elites who benefit from corporate profits.

I will have to agree with you on this one. And it has nothing to do with left or right. They are both as bad as each other on this subject.
GDP per head of population has been dropping for years. THAT, I believe, is why the mantra of immigration, or population, increase (one for mum, one for dad and one for the country). It keeps GDP growing, while disguising the fact that the increase in GDP doesn't equate to the increase in population.
Not to mention that the carrying capacity of this country has already been exceeded. And that most of the immigrants live in major cities, where their productivity is more than offset by the extra infrastructure costs they cause.

Much of what you've said just sounds like your opinion and not based in fact.
As for your last sentence ............ how so? You do seem to have it in for migrants.
RACIST....the cheap shot that is so easy to trot out when you cant or wont constructively debate the real proposition being proposed.
What do I really think of immigrants ? .......It takes a lot of get up and go to leave your family and friends and immigrate to a new country where you may not speak the language and are not familiar with local customs etc. Migrants are often more entrepreneurial and have a stronger work ethic than most Australians ( and that wouldn't be hard.... as a nation we have become spoiled, self entitled and lazy )
What I do have a problem with is THE VERY HIGH LEVEL of immigration which is dramatically lowering the living standards for our existing population. The idea of ever increasing population to support continual economic growth is a silly pipe dream. Yes it makes the numbers for government accounting and corporate profits look good, but it is unsustainable in the long term and decays living standards for the existing general population. The general population lose big time while the fat cats and those with influence get richer. Ridiculously high immigration policy ( as we have in Australia ) driving down wages and living stadards is one of the nasty excesses of the capitalist system that responsible socialists should oppose..

All that has absolutely NOTHING to do with emigration. Living standards are falling because of greed of the top 1%. The wealth has been concentrated in fewer and fewer hands, as the unions are slowly made irrelevant, and workers cannot alone make sure they get fair wages. After WW2 when Australia greeted large number of migrants the country was booming. It is NOT left or right opinion; while the right side of Australian politics keeps attacking asylum seekers, and keeps them imprisoned, they are quietly letting large numbers of migrants in. Why? because that way they keep all the racists happy, but they also know that with Australia's low birth rate we need more people to keep out economy going.
Getting young adult migrants is very economical way to grow the country; every Australian child born here will cost hundreds of thousands dollars to bring them to the tax paying stage. Migrants, on the other hand, are ready made and after the little initial cost of getting them settled in, they immediately start being productive members of the society.

@davewil1964 wrote:I was thinking the means to order locally online non-essential items - being local would mean fast delivery at low cost
You keep on about this. Who pays for their petrol and the wages of the deliverer? Especially if there is only one item delivered? A given most of the time if fast is a criterion.
The person that orders the item ?
I will state the obvious
How much does a home delivered pizza cost in your location and does that stop the ordering thereof ?
With hardware items consolidation would lower the delivery cost per item having two delivery cycles - one late morning , the other late afternoon - with some delivery cost to business already paid for by using exisiting staff that are currently idle (initially via job keeper)
One local store , local online ordering via local sales portal ( virtual shop in 3D comlpete with virtual sales assistant ) , delivery by existing staff ( with local business association approval) - staff being certified covid-19 free
Nothing new but just an online sales service expanded to discrete local suburban/town stores for local people so as to reduce the need to leave the premises and also enable sourcing of "non-essential" items without harassment and improve "non-essential"stores cashflows
The sourcing of "non-essential" items to maintain or develop interests , and so emotional health, will become more critical as the weeks in unnatural isolation grinds on , particularly for those within stage 4 regions
A musing from a parallel reality Australia

To maintain or develop hobbies , interests and pastimes during forced isolation and so reduce emotional stress
