from what I've seen of this virus.  it's frightening how quickly it can spread...  but very hard to get the numbers down once there's been a big outbreak. we had been in lockdown for over a month before there was even any change in the figures, which was a bit depressing

That was one of the things that concerned me.

@debra9275  So what is your take on why it took so long to move the numbers at all. ? Genuine question, just seeking your insight. You where there.

Because it got into aged care and health care workers so it became a domino effect where it was being treated but it was also what was causing infections due to some workers working at different sites.

Then on top of that people just weren't listening which was proven by the 200 plus fines they were handing out each day and there would've been plenty more that just didn't get caught.

Some were just carrying on as if there was no virus and going visiting different people without any precautions.

Look how quickly the Colac cases spread from just a single infected person and that's in a town of 20 thousand people compared to Melboune's 5 million.Corny_cleaning-glasses.gif

The main problem was that it was spread over a large area that all had multiple cases of infection and those ones had infected others and would've kept doing so if the lock downs had not happened.stubborn_smiley_by_mirz123-d4bt0te_zps12f1a5a3.gif

Re: Coronavirus update

This is interesting. I watched it some time before the existence of coronavirus. It gives you an idea how a virus can spread so quickly. From memory, SBS screened this pre covid.

I actually recorded Contagion months ago. After Covid surfaced I lost interest and deleted it. But I just took a peek at your link and it would be good to watch now. Thanks.

South Australia announces it will re-open its border with Victoria on December the 1st. No more quarantining required for interstate travel. Wonderful news for all concerned and best of all, no politics involved. Simply following the advice of epidemiologists and the scientists.

Re: Coronavirus update

with the second wave sweeping through Europe at the moment - some must be catching covid for a 2nd time , unless the age range is changing - I did hear on TV a report from Greece that it had been noticed far more 40/50/60 year olds being admitted to hospital now - this implies, all conditions being the same ,  that population has become weakened over time or the virus has become more deadly

good news is the local UofQ vaccine is developing well   - and as a bonus can be adapted to defending against other deadly viruses
