Coronavirus update

There is an increasing number of cases across the world where people who were infected with coronavirus recovered and then fell sick again. It is unclear whether this was due to reinfection, failures in testing, or other reasons. One explanation is that some people may not develop immunity. One person died from the second infection.

The vast majority of the population are doing the right thing without overbearing government. This sensible approach is clearly working so why enforce draconian measures on everyone just because a small handful of people are being idiots ?  A few might want to live in a communist inspired,  police state, but the vast majority of the population would prefer sensible restrictions and voluntary codes rather than thousands of dollars in fines and heavy handed policing..

It is likely that most Australians believe the most important thing in their lives to worry about is containment of this virus and not getting infected. I suspect the vast majority of the population who are doing the right thing may support the so called "draconian" measures, because the "idiots" remain idiots and are a threat to everybody's health. After all, the draconian measures will not affect the vast majority because they will choose to do the right thing over Easter. Yes, those people are sensible, but the idiots cannot be permitted to get away with their selfish idiotic behaviour.

I saw somewhere projections; apparently at that time about 8 people out of 10 were doing the right thing.  If 9/10 took the recommended  actions we would have infections at very low trajectory; 8/10 is good too, but if only 7/10 do the right thing we would be heading up rapidly, and our hospitals would be overwhelmed in matter of weeks.  I have no sympathy for the selfish idiots.  An I have even less sympathy for those who abuse medical staff or people in shops.  Jail them.

Sadly, draconian measures is our only hope of getting back to some normalcy any time soon.  Anybody who thinks we need American type "freedom" should watch American news like ABC (american station) on SBS at 12.30 pm.  They are digging temporary (?) mass graves in NY.  While people are queueing for hours around the block for charity handouts of food, as shops are running out of supplies.

Not all Chinese eat dogs or shop in the wildlife markets; most eat chicken and pork. It is a good news that they are banning eating dogs.  Some good to come out of this.  But just because we do not eat dogs and cats, does not mean that there are not horrible animal abuses happening here.  Just look at the live animal export, or what is happening to retired race horses and greyhounds; most of us hate it and want bans, but it is still going on.  In meanwhile  Cambodian girl was attacked and accused of bringing coronavirus to Australia.

its everywhere, not just here

pretty obvious the authorities are of the same mind as chameleon, she'll be right, most are doing the right thing.

Sadly you are either misrepresenting my views or simply don't understand them. I,m certainly not taking a " She'll be right " attitude and neither are our governments. I am taking an informed, intelligent approach based on evidence and fact rather than scaremongering and social media hyperventilation so common in much of the public discussion on the subject.

I carry hand sanitiser and use it EVERY time I go to the shops or other public places.   I wash my hands every time I return to the house. I usually pack my own lunch when travelling to the farm, rather than regularly stopping at my local bakery and are not engaged in any social meetings or activities at present. Basically I take sensible precautions in line with Government advice.

I also accept that there may well come a time when I and many others will become infected by the virus and while I,m not looking forward to it, I accept the necessity of younger, fitter people " taking one for the team"  in order to protect older and immune deficient people. We simply cant keep older Australians imprisoned in their homes for several years without any contact from family and support services while we wait for a vaccine to be developed and commercially available.

The Governments approach of sensible, controlled, managed infection is the only scientifically based, large scale, realistic way to gain control of the virus and eventually allow older Australians and society in general to resume some sense of normality.

I was just about to post the link.  American friend of mine, who is lovely but so "American" was going on and on few weeks ago about how useless Iran is because they allowed COVID19 to spread in such a way that they had to dig mass graves.  Which by the way was false; they were single graves with toomb stones.

Seeing that we lurch more to the right (have you not been keeping an eye on Dutton and the A.G ?), it's more like a fascist police state than a communist one, chameleon, if you happen to take that position.
I think the measures taken are reasonable given the situation we face, as long as rights aren't eroded once this is over.

For older Australians this is probably true and with very good reason. The majority of Australians do not fall into the 65 year old bracket and while the Corona virus is part of everyones daily lives many people have other concerns. Personally my first priority is to  manage the signifigant issues I face on a daily basis, rather than what might happen at some point in the future. There is a lot of stuff I dont go into on the forums, ( its no-one elses business and you wouldnt believe it anyway.  ) but it is way outside the experience and comfort zone of most people. The threat of possibly contracting Corona virus is small beer compared to what I am actually contending with on a daily basis..

Unfortunately, younger and younger people are dying. I think this is probably unnerving many sensible people under 65.

I do hope the issues you are contending are all resolved and that you and yours are well. Smiley Happy
